How to Honor Chris Street Next Year

This has to happen, IMO. The comeback in that game was incredible, even though I've only ever seen the replays. All the emotion that I know was there as they were fighting back in those last three minutes puts a lump the size of a baseball in my throat.

You don't get your name on an arena, or a court, at a university by playing really good ball for less than three seasons. I am not trying to denigrate Street's memory. I'm just saying. I was a huge fan of his.

That isn't the way it works and it doesn't matter if we think it should be the way it works. Think of all of the people who were the best players at their school who never got their name on the court or arena. As a matter of fact, think of one who did. Are there any?

Nile Kinnick.

FTR, I'm not advocating a change of any arena/court names. Just offering a counter.

But you just made my point for me, tm3308.

Kinnick played a full career and was the absolute best player to play at Iowa. He won the Heisman. AND the naming came in 1972. They don't do that now, and certainly not with players whose profile more closely resemble Street's than Kinnick's stature.

The thing is when we discuss something like this in a public forum it can come off as denigrating the memory of the player in question. That is certainly not my intent. But what I am saying is the way things work. Heck, they can't even get public sentiment to get the water tower behind Kinnick painted black and gold. It doesn't matter how much some would want this to happen. It is simply a pipe dream that is nice to think about but will never happen.

Kinnick isn't the best player to ever play here. In fact, his prowess as a player has less to do with his name being used for the stadium than does his character (and the way in which he died). If he were some jerk who drove off a bridge while drunk, he wouldn't have a stadium named after him. But he was an outstanding citizen (who had serious political aspirations), who died serving his country.

But again, I agree that nothing should be renamed (well, the court needs to be named something else).

Absolutely a must. I would definitely find a way to there for that game and I live in Montana. Absolute sell out and unbelievable promotion for the conference as well.

This is one of the best ideas that I have heard, if BTN has any sort of a clue, this will happen and the BIG will schedule this game.

It also would be a nice time to get Sparty in the house after this season's game, would be one hell of an atmosphere.
