How the heck did Iowa pull this off?

Iowas best defense? Lol the best defense for Iowa was Minnesotas offense. They were really, really bad today. But a wins a win, I'll take it

You answered your own question- they were just a little less bad than their opponent .

Woohoo! We stink less!

The pig has never been a more appropriate award.

Yep, both teams looked like monkeys trying to fornicate with footballs out there. But Minny is still Minny, so there it is.

Iowa won. But it wasn't a big turn around. The offensive line improved somewhat. They didn't allow as many sacks, so moving Colston, 64 (?) to the right side helped. But the running game was tough all day. But that was more that Minnesota keyed on the running game. The passing game wasn't sharp. However, Iowa did get some conversions on 3rd down. Which kept the defense off the field.
Overall the offense improved, but I would still give them a D+. Saying they've improved is like saying a pile of dung doesn't stink as much today as it did yesterday.

The Defense looked better they didn't get gashed up the middle near as much. But there were still some missed tackles. Overall I would give the defense a solid B for their effort. This is a good defense.

This is a good win, but lets face facts. It's against Minnesota. Iowa has two other games on the schedule they can win to get to bowl eligibility. Illinois and Purdue. Possibly Penn State.

Iowa played very well on defense, today. looked like the '15 defense against WUs. I believe until the last drive, MN was held to less than 200 total yards. Plus turnovers and sacks, yeah, Iowa's defense played very well, today.

Sorry buddy, but unless you're trying to cut the team/coaches down, that kind of talk is not allowed on the boards. Lol'n.

But in all reality; we won by 7 today but it wasn't/should've been that close.

The defense played very well; especially with stopping the run and containing Mitch "wah wah Iowa didn't want me as a QB" Leidner.

The offense moved the ball pretty well; except when reaching the red zone and finishing drives.

Still more than enough mental gaffs, but overall a much better game by the Iowa team.

Exactly. Our defense still sucks, Minnesota is just awful on offense, even worse than us.

But they have run the ball well.

Plenty of things to improve, but given half of this board predicted a loss, a few a huge loss. A decent, not great, win.

A win is a win no matter how ugly. That being said, KF might be the most stubborn coach in college football. Why in the world didn't Iowa try to go uptempo even once today? I know it irritated KF to have the press question him about after the NW game, but come on Iowa went uptempo twice against NW and it worked both times. Now with the offense struggling to put points on the board Iowa doesn't go uptempo against Minnesota. Drives me crazy!

2 key things for me. 1) Iowa kept with the running game and they had good balance as a result. Didn't put up huge numbers, but it kept the defense rested, allowed the offense to not be completely predictable, and allowed Iowa to control the game. 2) The effort by everyone was the best I've seen since last season. Everything has just looked a little "off" with only a few guys that looked on TV like they were giving 100%. I thought everyone gave it their all today.

Minnesota's D is good enough that it kept the game close and made the game ugly. Rivalry game, road conference game, I'll it every time.

Kirk still wants to play like its 1980

We are a bad team. We happen to play really bad teams too, and it's a toss up

when we get to MI/WI/NE, it's gonna be real ugly.

I'm sure some picked us to win northwestern and lose this game... so maybe that evened out...

But it is unbelievable how bad this offense looks.

I agree with up-tempo. I believe that CJ is a rhythm qb and needs get his uniform dirty. The dirtier his uni is, the better he plays. Also, on the 3 possessions prior to AW's 54 yard home run, Iowa ran a total of 19 plays: 12 pass / 7 run. They passed to set up the run. That is how Iowa's offense improves this season. Up-tempo, also will help pass pro since teams won't be able to sub in 3rd down/nickle-dime packages, and throwing to set up the run. I'd be willing to bet that if we were willing to throw 60+% of the time and run up-tempo, AW and LD will start breaking off long runs.
