How much will ISU be favored over Iowa next season?

I think overall talent wise the teams are about equal. Iowa has a lot of potential talent with question marks and Moo U lost a lot of talent, especially defensive talent, to graduation. Unfortunately that shithole of a stadium has become a house of horror's for Kirk in his career and I see no reason why this year will be different.

I agree that talent will be about equal. Coaching will favor ISU.

If you're referring to sideline antics then yes, coaching will favor Moo U. As for actual coaching skill, Rhoads is no Woody Hayes either. He's had his share of "what the **** are you doing" moments in his career.

I agree Rhoads is not Woody, but Kirk has shown that he relied on Norm a ton. Norm made Kirk look smart. Norm won the Orange Bowl and many many games for Kirk. I think CPR is a better coach than Kirk.

Kirk had Iowa running the table in conference and in the Orange Bowl in his 4th year. Rhoads went 6-6 and took his team to the Liberty Bowl his 4th year, and has yet to win more than 3 conference games in a season.

Rhoads has an engaging personality, genuinely appreciates his job, and is adored by ISU fans and the media in central Iowa. That doesn't make him a better coach.

Isu is historcally one of the worst football programs in the nation. Iowa is not and has much more of a winning tradtion than Isu. It's not apples to apples comparison.

As far as a game day coach, it's not close - Rhoads hands down.

I've said this before. Rhoads is with the wrong team in the wrong conference to ever be a consistent winner. He should leave if he ever wants to win a lot. Trouble is that he's not really the kinda guy to take over a big program. So, nobody else would offer him the kinda money he's getting now.

In short, he's kinda stuck.

As another poster said, the only way ISU will be favored in this game is if Iowa loses to NIU. Otherwise it will be a pick-em or Iowa will be the favorite. I'm not even sure when the last time ISU was favored in this series, but I don't think it's happening anytime soon. Specially not after what they lost. They'll need some players to step up in a big way in order to stop the running game. You don't replace players like Knott and Klein overnight, and their d-line has never been considered a strength.

Kirk had Norm. Without Norm, Kirk is not a great coach.

I agree with the highlighted. Now, that's not to say I want him gone, ever, but his defensive mind-set would fit in perfect at a Big 10 or SEC school. If he was to go to a Wisconsin or Nebraska, for instance, I think he'd be able to pull in better recruits that would afford him the opportunity to win at the next level. That said, I certainly hope that he can eventually get to that point here at ISU.

The only way isu ever wins is if they move to a mid-major conference. That won't happen because of the dough they get from being in the big 12, and the only reason they are being allowed to stay in the big 12 is because their basketball team has a winning heritage.

I am sure Pollard knows this about the football program and realizes it's totally hopeless for them to ever compete for big 12 titles. If he ever fires Rhoads, I'll have no respect for him at all. Rhoads is the best this school could ever get for HC.

If a school like Kansas can win the Orange Bowl or a school like KSU can be one win from playing in the NC, Iowa State has hope. To completely write them off is a bit shortsighted, but you're not a State fan, so I wouldn't expect you to understand or care.

Yep, Ks was good for a few short years. Lighting struck. It rarely strikes twice.

We all know how unique Snyder is at K State.

You need a very dynamic guy who can get talent. While Rhoads is a good and passionate guy, he's not dynamic. His stuttering doesn't help his cause with recruits either. Not trying to be mean. It's just the truth.

the only people on the planet that think paul rhoads has a speech problem are the trolls on this site who can't find any better reason to throw dirt on the guy and blindly hate everything ISU.

Shakes my head.................

Go read all the posts where I say I like the guy and think he's a good coach. Just cause I admit the obvious, that he stutters, does not mean I don't like him.

What a *****, dumb *** response by you.

He stutters. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's a fact. Listen to any of his interviews.

But saying his 'speech impediment' hurts with his recruiting was a brilliant thought. Lol
