HOW MANY SORRY A$$ CUBS FANS DO WE HAVE IN HERE??

Another Cub fan here. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess. I remember growing up watching the Cubs on WGN, listening to Steve Stone & Harry Caray. The earliest Cubs teams I remember were made up of guys like Sandberg, Keith Moreland, Jody Davis, Ron Cey, Leon Durham, Shawon Dunston and guys like that. Lee Smith was the closer. They weren't very good except for in '84 and '89, but me and my dad loved them anyway.

I agree with Gravy - the NL Central is always pretty winnable, so the Cubs have a shot. The trick is showing up for the NLDS.

I don't know if that is the correct term for it. I think "it's the division where the teams that sucks the least will win it" is more accurate.

I am sooo tired of all the Cubs fans who have Pujols already signed and delivered to them next year. Stop dreaming you idiots! He will be a Cardinal for the rest of his career which means the Cubs probably won't win a division title for the next 5-6 years minimum.

Because the Cubs can't possibly win a division title while Pujols is with the Cards.

Oh wait, they just recently won back to back division titles over Pujols' Cards.

He's not going to re-sign with the Cards, and I sure as hell hope he doesn't sign with the Cubs. If the Cubs sign him, it'll show that they haven't learned the lesson of the Soriano contract.

The Cardinals are gambling that he can't get the money he wants anywhere else on the open market (Yankees, Red Sox, etc), and that he'll come crawling back when he realizes that.

There is no lesson learned from the Soriano contract that can be applied to Albert Pujols. I highly doubt the Cubs would offer him a 17 year contract, which is the only way you could draw a comparison. The money per year for Soriano wasn't completely out of line; agreeing to pay him for 8 years was the problem.

I'm talking a contract that is too big and too long to allow the team to make any major moves and/or sign any other big names.

The Cubs can't trade Soriano for at least another two years, during which his production and defense will continue to decline. By the time his contract is able to be moved, nobody is going to want to take it on because of his declining production and defense.

The only way the Soriano contract was ever going to make it worth the time and the money was/is the Cubs win a World Series during his time with the team.

That contract was never going to be a good one based on the length alone. Soriano's skill set was much different than Pujols. If ages were equal, I'd definitely give Pujols 8 years whereas that Soriano deal would have maxed at 4 with maybe an option for year 5. His contract isn't preventing the team from making any big moves, and $30mm to Pujols wouldn't prevent it either.

If/when the Cubs when the series again. It's going to be a **** fest for days. I hope I'm there. The celebration will trump all others. Even Boston when there broke "the curse"

My only explanation is really bad ownership/managment. The money/market is there for them to be a great squad. It's too bad.

Hey Chicago what do you say?? GO CUBS!!!!

When they do get back to the series (in the next couple years I hope!!) I will hopefully be in a position to get to a game and just be hanging in Wrigleyville during the series....it will be pandemonium.

From what I have seen, if Pujols gets the kind of contract he is shooting for he could be earning around $30 Million/year into his 40's.. who does this guy think he is.. a washed-up, left handed starting pitcher?!
