How long before Kinnick starts seeing empty seats?

We won't see too many empty seats this year -- because the seats are already sold. I think today's loss at home against a very, very poor Central Michigan team (ranked No. 116 by USA Today) will start to open eyes a little bit more regarding the state of the program. When does the excuse making stop and in its place-- the reality of we have simply become a very average football program. And this program is headed in the wrong direction ...

But Jon will start in on how hard it is to recruit in Iowa, and more justification for doing nothing. Yes, it would cost big to fire him, but when we finish last for a few years, how much will it cost to not fire him. The program? The fan base?
If KF had ANY honor, he'd donate his salary this year to charity. But he's just another CEO who believes he deserves his millions for lousy performance.

This evening has been woefully low on derp. Bless you VHS, for saying something so stupid, it makes the loss worth it.

He will also say how good of a QB JVB is...

Yeah, it's gotta be a beotch of epic proportions to recruit to a school within a leisurely drive to the 3rd largest city in America. It's too bad Iowa City is no fun, because it would help if that town were more exciting and cosmopolitan. Like, say, Manhattan, KS...or Lincoln, NE...or Boise or Provo or West Sucking Lafayette or those wonderlands of sophistication in Alabama and the rest of the old Confederacy.

Ah. If only.

Actually, the second sentence echoes how I've felt about Kirk Ferentz for the last year or so, that he isn't much different from those guys on Wall Street who have been handsomely rewarded for their recklessness.

There was booing today, but it was for the officials, and in support of the team.

The crowd was fantastic today. Very, very loud when it counted. We're all disappointed, but there is hope.

I don't know if it's because there ain't much to do in Iowa, but some of you become nearly suicidal after a loss like this, and it's kinda sad.

The hawks will improve, and probably be pretty good the next couple of years (although this year will probably be rough)....probably. I think they'll surprise some teams.

I agree racer. I think by the end the crowd was more into the game than last week. They were booing the officials for sure. I know some people in the south end zone were saying the name of one of the refs and another would say "suck"...

It was an awful game. So many mistakes. We nearly won...but we didn't. Very disappointing for us as fans but I'm sure it's worse for the guys that play.

There aren't going to be many empty seats in Kinnick anytime soon. We're still at the point where, if someone with tickets declares they've had it and are selling their tickets, there are plenty of people who'll buy the tickets up with thanks. Still lots of absolute fans who will enjoy the football atmosphere on game day, THERE, doing the tailgate thing and the band and the color and the sounds that are part of College Football Saturday, even during the down times. Even when teams aren't very good, they still have their fans who have a ball going to games, being there. Kinnick will still be seating plenty of black and gold.

This.

I don't know about empty seats but I can't believe the donor $$$ would continue as has in the past.

What student would pass up the opportunity to drink for those 3 hours and avoid the emotional heartbreak that being at the game will entail this year? You gotta set your priorities and Saturday day drinking usually doesn't happen in the spring/winter.

As much as it pains me to say it, I'll be in those bleachers regardless of how well the team is playing. I love the sport and I love to get the opportunity to get away from home on Saturday's during the fall. I get that people are upset and they should be, but to alot of us it's about more than simply winning and losing, it's an escape from day to day life. As much as I hate days like today I'd rather be in those stands then any where else.

I've had two back surgeries the past two seasons that have caused me to miss the last three home games the past two years and to be honest, not being there hurts regardless of how the team is playing. My backs in good shape this time around and I no longer take Saturday's for granted and simply try to enjoy every saturday.

I bet you are a legend among the used car salesmen in your town.

There will never be too many empty seats. One of the reasons Hayden Fry came to Iowa was his amazement of all of the fans in the stadium even though we sucked. I've been going to games for about 25 years and still get goosebumps every time on the walk to Kinnick.

I still don't get the "we need to have empty seats to send a message". This program needs money if they want a new coach (if that's your perspective), a lot of it. Might as well buy the tickets, show up and then by concessions, shirts or whatever.

We're not getting a new coach, so just put that out of your head right now.

You know better than that.

There were plenty of empty seats around me today, and a lot of people who left at halftime.

The lines in the bathroom were unusually short as well. I noticed that the traffic on Melrose pre-game was much lighter than usual.

Kinnick might have empty seats from time to time, but those seats have all been paid for. Hawk fans will continue to support the team, regardless of the outcome. That's what a true fan does.

Kinnick is going to be mostly full the rest of the year. Look at our game we have left.

Minnesota-Homecoming and Trophy game
Penn State-Night game
Purdue-Is the only game that might not be full. Even then we are talking about worst case scenario. 90% full.
Nebraska-New rivalry game and I hate to say it but for every disgruntled Iowa fan there will be 3 NU fans to scoop that ticket up.

For those who are making the case about CMU game not having a lot of fans in their seats. The thing is if we won by 30 or lost this would have been the case. Us losing didn't change that. Before the game if fans had to pick a game to miss I'm sure everyone would have pointed to this one.

Will it be next week, next month, or next year. Or will somebody else just gobble up those tickets and Kinnick will continue to be a sell out. I would say the student section will be the 1st to see vacant seats. When will the rest follow?

It was pretty much full even when we had a 15 year losing record. What else to do on a beautiful saturday afternoon?
