Until everyone on the two deep demonstrates that they can execute assignments flawlessly I don't care if anyone else ever sees the field. They will not be the difference in any B1G game.

Practice and experience are way overrated. More fun just to toss them in when you need them the most.
Not serious huh? Well its not important when us plant corn and forget the corn. NOT putting team away when possible and then NOT playing backups makes life hard! WHY?

I think if they're "meaningful reps" then yes. I'd have no problems with mixing in the 2nd string skill positions with the first string to get some touches, but IMO it does very little good to put them on the field late, run the same running play over and over to simply milk the clock.

I simply don't think Weigers or the WR's benefit at all from getting on the field simply to run the ball to eat up clock. Just an opinion, but then again I am absolutely nobody in the scheme of things when it comes to football and have no problems sitting back and letting the coaching staff (professionals) do their thing.

North Texas has an offense that potentially could put points on the board. I really hope we can get the 2's some reps.

Iowa seldom has true backups ready for real game play. Fry used to mix up starters and non-starters in real situations. One thing he did better.

And it's my opinion that this is the way to do it. I simply don't see how throwing an entire second team onto the field late in a game to either milk the clock or take a knee does anything that can be construed as providing the backups with meaningful game experience.

Agreed. Let some WILL and LEO guys "run" with Jewell, then let some backup MIKE guys run with Bower and Niemann. Don't bring in a whole 2nd/3rd string entirely. Let some DBs mix starters with back-ups, let some WRs get mixed reps.

For that matter, Wiegers DOES need reps. He just doesn't need them with all back-ups. He needs them with ALL the potential players he could play with in an injury scenario.

Here's the bigger question: what about back-up punter? Back-up kicker? Back-up holder? Long snapper? Frankly, if we're going to back-up holders and long-snappers, it HAS to be a blow-out. Hopefully, the "good" kind!

great to see so many guys get touches out there today, even better because it all went according to the plan
