How good are the Hawkeyes - really?

The Hawks have been pushed around Lot's of close games. Talent wise a favorite to win the west? How? Granted, vanilla play calling...check. Stubborn....check. Playing not to lose (win) check. Lost far too many like this....CHECK! More talented than Nebby, Wisconsin and maybe Minny....How so? Playing teams that play above their abiity...Check in NW. Playing a team that is just like Iowa on their turf...PSU....Check. Playing a team on the road that can score at Rutgers...check. Playing a team that is not that much different in talent but with a gamer coach...MI...CHECK. Will Wisky suffer more than 2 losses...not likely. Can Iowa not suffer not more than 2 losses.....ummmmmm
Well Wisconsin has a much more difficult schedule than Iowa, they still don't have a QB, and despite beating a one dimensional LSU team I'm still not convinced they're better than an 8 win team. Nebraska is only one season removed from a 5 win season. Yes they beat Oregon, but Oregon is a fringe Top 25 team at best.
Iowa has the best QB in the West, and probably the best QB in the BIG. He's the 3rd QB projected to be drafted next year for a reason and that position alone is worth a couple W's every year in college football.

I would guess questions about CJ were raised last week. At this point....Tommy A or CJ? Hmmmmmm

A healthy CJ, not doubt. I'm not convinced his knee is OK.

This wasn't an issue the week prior when CJ was consistently delivering NFL type throws. A knee didn't limit CJ, the coaching staff and play calling did.

I sincerely hope you are right. However knee problems are sort of like this. When it is compromised, swelling starts. The change in knew mechanics causes other areas to inflame or get sore. It's sort of like a merry go round. Very changeable day to day, hour by hour and week by week. I'm speaking as someone who 12 years ago had a train wreck knee injury from playing soccer. After the initial injury after the pain subsided I went back in and I scored a goal. I've never played since. I can't.

As a soccer player and coach who knows the toll soccer can play on ones body...cue the soccer trolls lol.

That was a stupid comment. I just think he's injured. Sorry you have communication issues. You can get help for that.

Iowa's lack of depth on defense especially the Dline will cost them 3 games. I think Iowa ends up being a weak 8 win team or run-of-the-mill 7 win Iowa team that is generally satisfactory according to KF's contract.

Iowa is a developmental team because they don't recruit very well. All the tumblers have to drop into place.....the spacing of the classes at each position, the ACTUAL development of the players too. Its a mixed bag.

Normally I would agree with this but its only true if the staff doesn't hold him back. You can go back to the MSU game last year or just to 3 days ago against Fargo Senior High. Iowa, in close games, leans on their run game far too much instead of putting the ball in CJ's hands. They did the same thing with Tate and Stanzi. It cost them a B1G title and it cost them Saturday. I doubt they've learned their lesson.

I don't disagree with you. Our coaching staff rarely learns from mistakes; unless their jobs are on the line. Back to 10 more years of over conservative Kirk.

Iowa should beat NW, Rutgers, and MN? How so based on this years results. Will say can without a lot of room for error.

Wisconsin will play smash mouth football with more talent than NDSU. Iowa has shown an ability to not stop resourceful quarterbacks. MN has one that will want to beat Iowa. Iowa couldn't stop NDSU's qb when they needed to. Armstrong? If M finds an Iowa weakness, guarantee the Jimmies will exploit it for style points.

I think your analysis is spot on for teams not Iowa. Lot's of questions for Iowa.
I tried not to get to much into and Iowa analysis; Last week can be a fluke or it can be a harbinger for the season. The offense has to be the start of anything good. Stat wise Iowa ranks near the bottom on most meaningful stats in the league. We have seen Iowa teams turn around after bad losses. I don't think too many fans can give an accurate picture of the Hawkeyes today. I for one am still pissed at the way they played. Losing is one thing, but to get beat like that in Kinnickk?

Wisconsin has a tough road game this weekend after a close game with Georgia State last week. Then they are back on the road to Ann Arbor. It's going to be tough on them to play 3 weeks of smash mouth football before coming to Iowa City. They could be beat up and held together by backups by then. If they get through that, they are odds on favorites to win the B1G outright.

Nebraska won two fluff games, then Oregon out played themselves. But give Nebby credit, they fought hard and won. They have what looks to be an easy road until they get to Wisconsin

A thread full of trolls, lol, but they were more of a 10-2 caliber team last year. They were good enough to play with Michigan State, but not an elite program like Stanford.

This year they are definitely more of a 7-5 or 8-4 type team. I mean, if they can't beat NDSU, how do they expect to beat Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers, etc.
If Stanford is so 'elite', how did they lose to NW?

If I remember right it was early and at NW and the star wasn't playing in the first half.

That said, Iowa shouldn't have lost so badly. Stanford has done this over 3 years. For 2 years pretty elite. Beyond that, they aren't Iowa.
2 coaches in this time. I'd take it. Alabama isn't far off

2015 12-2
2014 8-5
2013 11-3
2012 12-2
2011 11-2
2010 12-1

Stan 66 wins and 15 L's.

AL 72 wins and 10 L's.

Hawks

44 wins and 33 L's.

Stanford is closer to AL since 2010 than Iowa is to Stanford.

Do not be surprised if Northwestern beats Nebraska this weekend.

I think you missed my point as its pretty well known that any mention of soccer in these boards generally brings out moaning and groaning. Not sure it was a stupid comment, but it may have missed its mark. Either way thanks for helping me with my communication issues and my sincerest apologies for it missing its mark.

My apologies sincerely..... and my knee hurts making me grumpy. The injury was akin to what happened to WillisMcGahey. I still about pass out when I see something like that on TV and sometimes just thinking about it. Full speed shoulder blow. When play stopped someone was on my shin and I was kneeling with my calf on the ground.
I'm kind of defensive of defensive about knee injuries. It changed my life. The main team surgeon at a Big Ten University ranked it #6 all time of what he'd seen of what someone can do to a knee. The guy who did Derrick Rose's surgery did my last surgery.I knew when he was involved Rose would never be right as he's the big gun. The day before the injury I easily cleared a 48 yard field goal during spring kids day (took my kids) at a Big Ten University. Now, I can't kick a PAT unless the bar is lowered to 10 feet and only 20 feet away.

Actually the cross bar is only 10 feet high. But I feel your pain.
