How does Woodbury do against Zeller??

I think he gets taken to school by Zeller. Zeller is the best skilled big man in the country.

We shall see. I don't see that happening. I think Woody will play well against him. With three/four bigs to throw at Zeller, he should get tired and possibly get into foul trouble limiting his time on the floor.....

:)

Zeller is not going to be the #1 pick. He is huge, but he's not very athletic and is not overly physical for his size. That being said, Woodbury has no chance, he's about the goofiest thing I've seen on a basketball court. Not saying he can't be better, but you're getting too excited because of his size. Zeller worst match-up was against Butler when the guy just got physical with Zeller and took him out of his game. At this point, Woodbury does not possess this, from what I've seen.

You must be a young'un. You want to talk raw, young, Iowa centers see just about anyone who played the position under Dr. T. Acie Earl was all arms and legs as an underclassman and had trouble untying himself long enough to catch the ball. Les Jepsen was the definition of gangly...downright painful to watch early in his career. I literally cringed when he came into the game. Granted my memories of Hawkeye hoops goes back only to the mid-80's, but in that time I can't remember a freshman center who's game was better developed than Woody's.

Nonetheless, I think you're right. I think Zeller gets the better of him tomorrow.

Wouldn't be at all surprised...

I think Woody gets in early foul trouble and is not a factor in this game

if that is what happens. Especially if Indiana makes a concerted effort to go inside early. Zeller is very good, but the rest of the Indiana team is so capable offensively that they go stretches where he doesn't touch the ball much. Iowa has lots of fouls to give between Woodbury, Basabe and Olaseni. Need to be able to play Zeller straight up and not commit a lot of extra defenders to him as Hoosiers are very good 3-point shooters. If Iowa can just get Zeller to go something like 9-17 from the floor that would be good defense. Can't have him dunking 10 times or whatever it was last year at Indiana.

Will be a good experience for all the young Iowa players to be in a game with some expectations and excitement. Hawks didn't handle it very well against OSU last year. Iowa needs to make some shots early in the game to keep the crowd believing and into the game.

That is fine, according to Herby then Gabe will come in and show he is a true NBA talent and dominate Zeller. Gabe will make Zeller wish he went to the draft after last season.

I think what most people are forgetting is that it won't just be Woody on Zeller. We will be subbing people in and out like crazy to keep up with them. I don't think Woody plays bad but I do expect Zeller to get his usual 16 pts 8-10 boards. I think it will be interesting to see if we can push him out of the paint with Woody and Gabe. Plus having Mel on the weakside it can cause a lot of havoc for Zeller. I just think he is too consistent to not get those stats.

I think the real test will be if our guards can cause pressure on Hulls, Watford and Oladipo. But there is only one thing I can think of that I would like almost as much as a win. And that is if White, Gabe, May or Melsahn posterize Will She'sahe. Whenever I think of Indiana that dunk he had still plays on a loop in my head.

We will never know as he didn't qualify originally, we as fans didn't get to see the "awkward years" pretty typical of big men at that time, Looby included.

As a major juco fan, I sure did. Amazed me that he even made it to the divisiion one level the way he got scored on playing juco ball. It wasn't pretty and to my amazement his game really improved.

My biggest concern is how our freshman come out. Despite the game being at home it is going to be an environment that they have yet to see and against a top 5 team. I'm concerned that the jitters and the inexperience could get the best of them and could easily see our freshman coming out timid or playing outside of themselves and trying to do too much. Regardless of what goes on between Woody and Zeller, I think our only hope is if the upper classmen, carry the freshman, taking the pressure off them. Unfortunately I don't see any of our freshman playing to their ability and think everyone else has to step up to keep it close. I hope I'm wrong.

Marble,Whitey,Zach,Oglesby and Mel are going to have to have huge games for the Hawks to hang in this game.

AW might be the best match up CZ has seen to this point this year. I wouldnt be surprised if Fran keeps A W in for the most minutes he's seen all year. I would think AW plays 30 minutes, 6 pts, 8 rebounds, and most importantly fouling out. CZ is held to 12 pts, and because of the battle in the paint, an off shooting day for Indiana equals an Iowa win.

Im not saying that doulble teaming CZ with 2 Zach McCabe type beefcakes hasn't been tried against Zeller yet this year, but when was the last time Zeller was guarded one on one with someone who is his physical attribute equal?

Ok. Woodbury played 18 minutes, 4 pts, 8 rebounds. (Did foul out)

Zeller 30 mins, 19 points (most when Woody had to sit in 2nd half after 2 quick fouls) and 10 rebounds.

I think Woody could have played a little better by taking the ball stronger to the rim, but other than that, he compared pretty close to what I thought would be a good showing in his first matchup in BIG play.

Outside the rebounds you were wrong on everything. Some were close but some major mistakes. I would say not close prediction. It is ok.

Woody did enough to help for a win we just didn't get it done. Great job on the boards and a solid defensive showing. He is a lot tougher as a frosh than I thought he would be.

6-8 of Zellers points came from Woody and #0 forgetting about him. I think if Basabe could have gone the whole game that may have been the difference. Zeller is to smart to forget about him for a sec.
