How does a kid get convinced this is a good idea?

Isn't there a parent, grand parent, coach, or other mentor to explain just what a dick-move this is? I don't really blame the kid cause I was dumb in high school too, and probably did some stupid stuff because I thought it was clever. But never in front of a national audience.

IF I was a HC somewhere, I can tell how I would handle IF the kid chose my school:

1) Thanks for sticking with us. We really believe you can reach your full potential here with respect to your academic, athletic, social and spiritual endeavors. However, before we go further, I have a request, and you don't have to do any of this publicly. But please consider the request. to follow

2) Please call any of the coaches at the schools that were represented by a hat, shirt, etc.
3) Express your sincerest gratitude for their offer and all courtesies shown to you by the staff, school and community
4) Apologize if they feel you confused or offended them during any part of the commitment proceedings or press conference
5) Wish them luck and let them know how much you appreciate the opportunity they offered you
6) (Closing) Ya see, son, the staffs at ALL the schools put in a lot of time recruiting you. They saw something in you, as did our staff. They thought pursuing you was very much a worthwhile effort, as did we. So...please prove ALL of us were right.
