How does a coach who has never coached...

lots of transfers? do you honestly feel we'd be significantly better if coach k was coaching this team?

royce ain't gonna be there next year, so unless old freddy can keep the transfers coming, eventually he's going to have to build a team.

I honestly think any other coach would have recognized the woeful talent he had coming in and built a program with a combination of transfers and new recruits. What good does it do to keep lousy players two or three years waiting for a new recruiting class to fill in talent gaps? Do both. I'm not convinced he has more than about 1 player who would be good enough to play at the level we need to be at. This is after two years. So we're assuming that this 2012 class is going to have 4 starters?

White top 50 player tranferred in that a good enough reason to start with
how about Allen transfer from MSU
or Christopherson already there
get the IDEA
not exactly starting out with hs kids or leftovers from a terrible coach

lots of schools do that, but iowa is better than that. we don't do that in football either. the sec does that, and benefits greatly. yes, we'd be much better if fran didn't renew some schollies, but he's not going to do that. so, we're in the position we're in.

Fran is building a team that fits his system. Pretty simple...Freddy does not have a system, but instead is bringing in a bunch of misfits that is not sustainable.

Huggins told Devan Baewinkel to hit the road when he took the West Va. job. Fran and Iowa did not go that route. It is painful, but doing the honorable thing, the right thing, is still the proper path to take in the long run. Our mistake was hiring lick. Thankfully,Barta recognized his mistake fairly quickly and rectified it. Now, we have the right coach in place, the solid facilities in place,so we are back on the road to redemption!

Marble and Basabe would start on any team other than maybe a UNC or a Kansas type team
i will go on record as this will be the starting lineup next year

Gesell at pt
Marbel at sg
May at sf with a solid push from White ifhe doesn't overtake May before the year is out
Basabe at pf
Woodbury at c

Clemmons backup pg
Oglesby backup sg with Ingram as the 3rd option at the sg and pg
May or White will back up the 3 spot
McCabe backup at pg with Meyer being the 3rd option at pf and center
Olaseni as the backup at Center and the pf
people have to be patient with what we have coming in we will have 3 option at all 5 positions something we don't have this year plus we will have 3 players 6'10, 6'11 and 7'1 on the roster

appreciate the homerism, but marble probably wouldn't start for most programs, and basabe maybe for a few in the big 10 (but not the way he's been playing this year)

Well, the "misfit" plan is working better than Fran's plan. Not sure why they are misfits. I bet Iowa fans would love to have guys like White and Babb right now. Plus Clyburn and Lucious are set to go next year.

Fred has also snagged a good JUCO in McGee and a good HS class coming in next year.

IMO, a head coach should go get talent in whatever form it comes in.

will be interesting to see if fred continues the transfer route, or if he changes his recruiting approach in the coming years. still find it highly ironic knowing the pollard quote about how transfers are ruining the sport and then fred builds a team of transfers.

I think Fred has gone on record saying he isn't going to go the transfer route all the time going forward. He is hitting the high school recruiting hard right now. The transfer strategy is a program jump start.

Fred Hoiberg = George Raveling

I have never coached a game of basketball in my life. Let's see what happens when a team I coach, which has more talent overall, plays against a team with less talent overall, and who's point guard (11 PPG last season) is out for the game. Then, let's make generalities based on that result, that do not require any attention to detail, deep thought on any level, or even basic common sense.

How does a coach who has NEVER coached beat somebody with Fran's resume, TWICE? Think about it...

UI would definately be a little different team if Cartwright were healthy. Miss his floor game tremendously. Need to try and get him to 100% before b10 season. Marble has done a nice job, but is a true 2. I think improvement will come, just not enough to win very many games. I think they really miss cole's toughness inside, too. Never thought I'd say that. JMO. I like Fred, always have, and he's a good fit for ISU, but put equal talent on the floor and Fran wins 7 outta 10.

for the life of me i can't figure out why they didn't go to royce EVERY time. it's like they forgot him in the second half. they could have and probably should have beat us by 30, with royce getting 25 or so. we had no answer for him and couldn't stop him. reminded me of a KOK offense. running the ball extremely well? time to only pass it!
