How do you think this Iowa lineup would fare

Tough to say what your bench is...not sure Payne comes in as Iowa turned to him when Peterson transfered. Same for Cartwright and some others...probly still have Marble, McCabe, May, Brommer. Don't have Basabe.

Doesnt mean anything I know, interesting to think about..and a reminder that Iowa has lost so much to transfer in recent years, which is why they are at the rebuilding place they are right now.
 


That all depends. Are we going to assume Lick is still the coach or go way back and assume SA is still the coach?

I was just thinking this exact thing while I was watching the game at OSU.

Here is another one: If you could go back, would you still let Alford go after seeing what it has done to the basketball program?

No better than this lineup:

Cartwright - better than Peters imo
May - Kelly is much, much better
Gatens - same, no change
Basabe - better than Fuller
Cole - no change

Overall there isn't enough size at the C position and not enough slashing at the wing position. A better question would be if you had the following lineup:

PG - Cartwright
wing - Kelly
Wing - Gatens
PF - Basabe
C - Anybody 6'10" or taller from our previous 20 yrs - anybody.
 


Still way too undersized to compete in Big Ten. That is one of the main problems with the current team. Fewer turnovers with Peterson and Kelly but no inside game from either group except for Fuller.

Jake Kelly was the biggest loss in quite some time. He would be a tremendous player in the current system and was one of the few players in the last decade that could easily create his own shot.
 




You could throw Tucker in there as well. Another good outside shooter that could take you off the dribble a time or two.

It would be good enough for somewhere between 7th and 9th in the league. However, we would have won the vast majority of our out-of-conference games. NIT bound.

I'd rather be where we are now, with Fran, than with that group of players with Lick. Fran will attract better talent in the long run.

Tucker probably should not be included since he was forced off the team, rather than transferring. With those players, Lick would still be the coach and still would have forced Tucker out.
 


I would say, what about the team we have now, but Fuller didn't transfer? What about Jake and Fuller still on the team? At least still having Fuller is very realistic with the new coach, and he just couldn't turn that around, and it is too bad.
 


With Fran's offense, I'd put us in the top half. Without Fran, I'd say we'd be somewhere around 7 or 8.
 




Iowa basketball is in a sad state of affairs right now. But as Jon alluded to we had some solid talent quit, leave, and/or be kicked off. So there is no doubt we would be much more competitive with those guys, particularly Kelly and Fuller. We return just about everyone next year, Cole is the only departure, and he is not a huge loss to be honest. We need to get some wins to get some confidence going. Tomorrow's game is crucial, we desparately need that win. If we can get a taste of victory and build some confidence into the offseason, we could see significant strides next year.
