How did Barta sanction this Presser.....imho...horrible...trainwreck

Finished reading the presser.

This presser had to be a homerun and it was more of the same (in fact maybe even brutally honest in some of Kirk's answers in revealing just how stuck in the mud we are with Kirk's overall coaching philosophy). How can you come away inspired from those responses as a fan....or player?

Things that stuck out to be.

1. Big Ten Championship goal repeated several times. When has Kirk ever said the main goal is to compete for a National Championship?

2. We will basically never be a run and shoot team because we can't recruit that way. Why is that Kirk? Cold weather did not stop Oregon, Nebraska, Kansas St, etc through the years. Heck did not even stop Hayden from throwing down field........

3. "I'm not the smartest coach." Correct....see game time management.

4. The season is not measured by wins and losses. Everyone is a winner right? The loser is the 2nd winner.

I think the end is near. Kirk has some great qualities as a person, but the end is near. Honestly, reminded me of Jack Nicholson's speech in Mars Attacks when he finally says:

President Dale: Rest assured that we will soon come out at a very real outcome. Thank you.

He basically said he has been out fundraising so much in the off season he has not studied enough football and consequentially the game has past him bye? Really a 4 million dollar a year coach not keeping current on the game?

CRAZY!

Did he call himself a Fat Cat, without using those words??? I kind of think he did.

Exactly Playmaker. That is why you can expect Iowa to continue to lose pre-season games.

Also, I forgot to add about the TCU coach (Anderson) admitting he needed to change his offensive philosophy to compete in the Big 12 (become more wide-open). I believe he got a new offensive cordinator in there to accomplish this task. Correct me if I'm wrong someone. So, it is not like we can't become something. "Thing you can, or think you can't, either way you will be right." You would think 4 million dollars should be able to buy some above average offensive schemes.

Maybe Kirk can go read 12 pages of notes from Bob Knight now that he is going to devote more time to film study. Oh wait, that is basketball. Wait.....he is going to Green Bay to learn....... question....would Kirk have Rodgers, CJB, or Rudock starting at QB right now?

Maybe they had something all set to go down, but it didn't work out or they changed their minds, so they had to just suck it up and wing it for the presser....oops, I forgot who we were talking about.

I don't follow. How was ferentz being same ol stubborn ferentz, sprinkled in with a few nuggets that we have been waiting to hear (cj is the starter, need changes, our goal is to compete for conf titles)...all of which were 100% forced upon him by Barta, bartas fault? Gary didn't write the stupid speech. He forced Kirk to face the music. Not his fault the press asked softball questions. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water.

Otherwise known as a "check down"......seen it all year long, why stop now.....;)

This is the most indicting comment of the all. He threw everyone under the bus including himself with that comment. So who was in charge of the team while you were out fundraising Kirk? It must of been Phil or was it Brian?? Shows neither is HC material. Next year should be his last if he doesn't win at least 8 games.

"Last season we sucked. But don't worry. Next season we'll make no changes, except I will spend more time in a dark film room!"

The presser was a complete failure. Actually made things worse upsetting more fans. There will be many empty seats next year.

Correct. Before this presser/yawn festival I had hope that some things would change. KF gave us both middle fingers and said get off his lawn.

To put it mildly, I don't think much..if anything..was accomplished by the press conference.

To those who want changes...either Kirk gone or a staff shakeup...that didn't happen, so they are ticked off.

To the average Joe and Josephine Blow who don't get on the message boards...they probably didn't even know there was a press conference, and what they will know about it will be what they read in the paper (if they read it). It won't mean a thing to them.

So I wonder what the point of it was? For Barta to try and force Kirk to face the music? To try to stop the bleeding, public opinion-wise?

There was one thing, however, that really bothered me......Kirk basically admitting he wasn't giving 100%. To me, that is inexcuseable.

Next season will be interesting. Will Kirk's stepped-up efforts in regards to the program have a positive effect on the on-field performance? Or is this a case of too little-too late?

I just picture Kurt and Greg asleep in the film room until somebody else walks in and the door wakes them up and they both act like they weren't sleeping at all and scramble to write down some notes.

Barta is the first one that needs to get run out of town, with KF in the same car.
Exactly, you don't want Barta to have anything to do with the next FB hire. Barta really needs to follow Mason and 'retire'. the next AD gives the succeed or pack your bags Kirk.
