How big would a win be for Iowa football this weekend?

Would it be looked at as an aberration or a point we'd look back on as a turnaround of the program?

Iowa needs a program defining game. They've been stuck in neutral since mid-season 2010.

It could be as huge as Pedo State in 08, Nebraska in 81, OSU in 52, or Notre Dame in 21 as far as instilling confidence in the program, and many wins will follow.

This big.

Aberration. We could win out, and it would still be an aberration. Lou Holtsczsczh would find a missed penalty call that went against O$U, and harken back to the fact we needed to block two FGs to beat UNI in 2009.

Any win, anytime, against teh OSU at their place is huge. Championship level Iowa teams of the past still had trouble with this one I.E. '85.

Yeah, we had problems there in '85 but that was due to the weather. We've won there plenty of times.

That's right Iowa has won there 8 times already. The last 2 involved effective use of the tight ends. They need that again, I would love to see that Alen Cross play used again.

Iowa hasn't won in Columbus since '91. But sure. Yea, 8 wins - impressive.

It would be John Holmes big. Only older porn fans will understand how big that is. Younger guys, just google "elephant dick". Yes it would be huge.

As stated, a win against OSU, especially in Columbus, is always huge. As to whether it is an aberration or the sign of a turnaround, that won't be known until the next week when Northwestern comes to Iowa City. If we get pummeled by them then it was an aberration, pummel them and it is the sign of a turnaround.

Holy crap. Aberration? Really? If Iowa somehow wins sat (likely wont happen) we are in excellent shape to contend for the title, and the entire landscape of the program changes. How would we not be favored in the rest of our games? Not to mention we would probably be shot into the top 25 all a sudden. Tell me that doesn't give your players mojo. Will it happen? That's another story.

chuckle. 3 times since Hayden Fry took over - "that's plenty son"

or is it 2 times?

Well, two that I can recall. If I recall correctly we had a run in there where we won 2 out of 3 games in C-bus (won in '87 and '91 and lost in '89), which is pretty impressive. And to be fair to Ferentz, he hasn't as many opportunities to go in there and get wins due to scheduling issues. For instance, I don't think we played OSU in 2001, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2011 or 2012. We had some darn tough teams in many of those years so I'd give us the presumptive wins against OSU in 2001, 2002, 2008 and 2011. Can't blame Ferentz that OSU worked the schedule to dodge us.
