How big would a win be for Iowa football this weekend?

Yeah, we had problems there in '85 but that was due to the weather. We've won there plenty of times.

Or Chuck Long's 3 interceptions...... Maybe, just maybe, because Speilman spent more time in the Iowa backfield than Ronnie Harmon.

I've talked to some players. We had the wrong shoes for the field surface and weather combination. We were the better team and due to a minor detail that was magnified by the weather, we looked like garbage that particular day. It was easy for OSU to get penetration because our o-line couldn't get any traction. Don't bash the entire program because of something that happened 28 years ago, pal.

Holy crap. Aberration? Really? If Iowa somehow wins sat (likely wont happen) we are in excellent shape to contend for the title, and the entire landscape of the program changes. How would we not be favored in the rest of our games? Not to mention we would probably be shot into the top 25 all a sudden. Tell me that doesn't give your players mojo. Will it happen? That's another story.

One good season doesn't do that. We saw that in 2008-2010. We closed out well in 2008, had a great year in 2009, and then have been in free fall since. One good year won't give us the kind of bump in recruiting that we need to really get things turned around.

So the hightop ponies were a bad idea, eh? Wasn't bashing the program, no clue where you got that from, Iowa played like dog poo that day......who knew it was the shoes.

I'll take a class of 25 unheralded recruits and a redshirt year with DOYLE over a class of pre Madonnas who were ranked highly by Scout any day. We have had some coaching turnover and it takes time to adjust. The program is ALREADY on the right track but too many fans demand immediate results. Wait until Rudock is a senior. Iowa is gonna be sick.

Sorry, man, didn't mean to get defensive there but I just get mad when folks bash the program. I have re-read what you said and realized that I accidentally responded to you for someone else's stupidity.

Win would be big, but..
No top 25 because of it. Need to win a few more games before that would happen.

We would only be in excellent shape to contend for the title if we continue to win.

The biggest effect it would have on the season, right now, would be to make it much more likely that we qualify for a bowl bid.

Signed, Purdue, 2009 AND Purdue 2011.

A win would be huge because 1) Iowa doesn't beat OSU very often, 2) Iowa rarely beats a top 5 team, and 3) beating the buckeyes would get the attention of Ohio recruits that Iowa is recruiting.

We had Ponies, which were the wrong shoes for every field, weather condition and sport. I went to junior high school and high school with several of the assistant coaches' kids. Only ones in the entire school wearing Ponies. Felt bad for them. Kind of knocked them down a notch, despite having dads connected to the program.

Agreed, but we were good enough to overcome those issues in most games. But man, the field that day was like an oil slick and those Ponys got no grip at all. We were better than OSU but watching our guys slide around out there was painful. It's really sad that such a great season came down to something as minor as footwear.

Even the Iowa skilled guys wore those hightop Ponys........The lineman I got, but the skill guys? It might have been Iowa played on turf, not sure can't remember.
