Maybe if fatty stopped wagging his tongue after every play he made they would have played better.

I was hoping McCabe would catch him with an elbow and he would bite through his tongue.

Is it me, or does there seem to be a lot of excuses in this article?

One insightful quote stood out for me:
“We were just playing bad and they were just playing good,” guard Dez Wells said.

I was right proud of how good Iowa played. I seen a heap of teams play good, and ain't none of em better than Iowa. I'm glad we played so good.

I also got the vibe of excuses from the article. I was expecting something about bad calls by Burr (maybe the "not enough trips to the free throw line" thing was a subtle complaint of officiating), but I guess the injuries & illness & the time off between games were so important that maybe (Stevens thinks) Iowa doesn't deserve credit for the win.

Playing on 3-21, 3-26, and 4-2 makes you rusty.
Playing on 3-22, 3-27, and 4-2 keeps you sharp.

I honestly did not get the vibe that excuses were being made. And the above quote is accurate, Maryland did not play that well which was due to Iowa's playing some solid D and throwing a lot of looks at Maryland. Iowa did play well and got the win. It's a player quote did you expect some great insight? What he said is accurate.

I am still trying to figure out how Maryland "let is slip away" when Iowa was in control of the game pretty much from start to finish?

"“I don’t know how we kept it close, to be honest with you,â€￾ Turgeon said."

Maybe because you were in the bonus 5 minutes into the second half? People say no one complains about the officiating in a win, but I'll do it. That 2nd half was brutal.

I thought Iowa played average. Marble played very well.
I thought Iowa forced Maryland to played poorly.

So by saying - we played bad, they played good - is a cop out IMO.

How else was he going to get the cookie crumbs off of his face???

I thought he was trying to find his flavor saver tache but couldn't..

It's local media so they're going to focus on the failings of Maryland. Still it does sound whiny: "Too many days off, a couple of injuries which effected the rotation, we played bad, etc..."

Iowa didn't play a great game but this stood out to me from the write-up:

"Maryland (25-13), which faced
a multi-possession deficit for the final 37 minutes."

Iowa was in control of this game for nearly the whole game and even when Maryland made runs, Iowa held them off with clutch shooting, making the hustle play, or playing good defense. This game was never really felt like it was in doubt.
