............. well ok it was Caitlin Clark and her WNBA team playing the Brazil national women's basketball team. Guess who broke the NCAA all-time scoring record?

I listened to an interview where Cait talked about there not being air-conditioning in Carver............ but she's a pretty cool cucumber.

Now I wouldn't pay $650 to watch any woman's basketball game but the wife and I are talking about making the five hour drive down to watch Cait play in Vegas sometime in the future.

Maybe school teachers are a little tighter with their money than people with real jobs, but $650 to watch her play 19 minutes and win by a brazilian points? Not this guy. Loved watching it on TV though.

A 'Brazilian' points!!! Haha nicely done.

I was wondering if anyone from our boards here mighta went to it. I watched it and it was just typical Clark being Clark out there. She hit a 3 to start the game and at the end of the 3 quarters she played. She wasn't 100% her normal self whatever she's got going on with her leg it's legit. I'd say she was running at 75-80%

The Clark effect is beyond comprehension. If you had posted on this board 4 years ago that a exhibition WNBA game would sell 15k tickets, people would drive hundreds of miles to attend, and pay $700 a ticket, we would have laughed you out of the building.

How many other players on the planet could have replicated that? Maybe Lebron or Curry? But beyond that, who could draw that sort of crowd for an exhibition other than CC? Crazy.

We were fortunate enough to get tickets when they went on sale, so "only" paid the original price.

A "Brazilian" points--LOL--good one!, but it was still a very enjoyable experience to feel the enthusiasm of the crowd for what may well be the final CHA "Clark Effect live experience. Truly mind boggling to see so many Fever shirts, most with "22". A lot of "CLARK FEVER" shirts and jerseys, which also is very clever. Add in the Iowa 22 shirts and jerseys, and it was somewhere around half the crowd sporting "22".

A CC 3 to start the scoring and a 30-something footer from near the "22 Clark" spot on the floor as her last shot was a perfect way for her to start & end her day. She rode an exercise bike while she wasn't in the game, but didn't otherwise appear affected by the leg injury.

Getting a sense of how well Bonner, Howard, Cunningham, Colson and the other off-season veteran additions are going to blend with Mitchell, Boston and Clark was the best part, since the game was non-competitive from very early on.

Fun to have the '24 - '25 women's team introduced as a group during a timeout. And Coach Jensen got to talk for a bit, including pointing our Coach Bluder in the crowd. Gabby Marshall and another former player or two were courtside, and Clark went over to them right after the game. Surrounded by security people.

Very encouraging to see virtually all the team crowd around Clark when she was being interviewed after the game. There was some online stuff during their off season about one of the new veterans being disliked by Fever fans for her alleged negative comments about Clark, but like so much else you see online, there certainly didn't appear to be anything other than team unity. Anyway. . .

Don't know enough about how well the Liberty, Vegas and MN reloaded for the title chase, but the Fever sure looked the part of contenders Sunday.

All in all, a very enjoyable afternoon in CHA for a sold out crowd to see an exhibition game! Once Clark took a seat for good, there were a few fans who left, but given the blowout score, it was impressive how everyone else stayed for the whole game, and even afterwards to watch the interactions on court.

The Clark Effect rolls on in WNBA season #2.

Thanks for sharing that insight.

As I thought, basically Lebron is the only basketball player on the planet that even compares to CC's draw.

Not surprised. She is the most popular basketball player on the planet under the age of 30. Long way to go, but Dochterman is correct, she could end up being the first female billion dollar athlete.

I think it is going to be very hard for her to hit that mark being in a sport where the sport itself pays you almost no money. Compare Lebron to CC. Yes, both make huge dollars in endorsements, but Lebron also pulls down 50 million a year from the NBA and has been making tens of million a year for two decades. If you multiply 50 million times even a 10 year career in your prime, you are half a bill right there. Having that kind of money flowing in every year allows Lebron, with the help of smart investment folks, to add 10% or more a year in investment return as well.

The Williams sisters made good money off of Tennis itself, both nothing compared to Lebron or Mahommes or Brady. There just is not a woman's sport that pays F You money right now. That is CC's headwind to founding that lofty club. Hope she makes it.

Sounds like you had an awesome time I'm jealous. Thanks for sharing your 1st hand account of it all. It seems like going forward they outta do something like this again too. But that sorta thing you just never know.

If that's the last shot Clark hits in a game at CHA I'd say that's as fitting as it gets. But selfishly I kinda hope she's got more to play.

Yeah I mean sure the WNBA is growing some now with her but they are coming from such a low place that what's she gonna go from making $78k/yr to 50 milly? That isn't happening over the course of her career let alone anytime soon. She damn well outta be the first to break the 1 million mark/yr I think that should be a given (but with how the W is who knows they'd rather she not get any recognition if they could help it) But even that's a humongous jump and I don't think that'll happen in the next few yrs. The league itself kinda needs to begin turning a profit I would think before that happens.
