Hold on to your lug nuts!

Well I understand the writers frustration. Hawks should have 7-9 wins every year under tenured head coach the problem is we dont.

7.5 wins is a good over/under number and I can see why more are taking the under. Same offense, less experienced QB, just lost two offensive tackles to NFL, all time leading possession receiver is gone as well as the receiver with 'great' talent has transferred. Why would you expect much more from an inconsistent offense unless you think CJ is going to be like Elway hitting guys in stride and throwing the bomb.

Defense might be a little better but again, lost two really good tackles.

Surprised that the over/under from Minnesota is 5.5 With TCU and Colorado St they do have a tougher non-conference than some squads. But I thought Kill would have more believers.

Did Minny lose a lot of players to graduation? It almost seems like they slowly built up momentum for last years surge with an easy non-conf slate. Maybe they were senior laden and are now rebuilding again.

Bleak forcast but probably realistic. My question is does seven wins give KF another year at Iowa and an extension? Barta better hope for at least nine wins if he is thinking extension. It would be a statement to future recruits that this coach is done if he doesn't grant extensions to his contract. KF it's time to put up or shut up. I am hoping for a break out year and a one year extension. Six wins with this schedule would be a joke and obvious grounds for termination of the head coach and I don't think there would be to many fans protesting it either. Still I will wish for he best for the team this upcoming season. Go Hawks!!!

I would think 7 wins won't cut it for kfootball. Seven wins means we'll have either lost at least 1 non con game or have only 3 B1G wins. We should be 4-0 to start the B1G and should have at least 5 B1G wins. Our schedule demands 9 wins. But with 9 wins and an extension, I damn well hope Barta is smart enough to delete all of that buyout language. I think an extension brings an OC title for Brian, also. kfootball would be willing to put his trust in Brian on a season by season basis.

7 wins is the absolute minimum given schedule, etc.

I would prefer 8 or more and the beginnings of a transition plan over the next 2-3 years so as not to negatively affect any possible upswing in recruiting that it seems we are having.

9+ wins would be great, taking everything in to account. A new, fresh OC wouldn't hurt either.

Every year. Every year, Iowa should be 4-0 going into Big Ten play. How many times has Iowa been 4-0 going into Big Ten play? Anyone? Anyone?

I simply cannot believe ANY talk of an extension....are you people crazy? Given our schedule, 8 wins would be pathetic and prove that ZERO corners are close to being turned. KF knows this season is it, and will try and fool fans and get them jazzed with a somewhat changed philosophy....give him an extension and he will be right back to Cautious Kirk. Mark my words!

I don't think there will be an extension beyond his current contract, regardless. If we are looking to not negatively affect future recruiting, a transition plan with a HC in waiting is the way to go.

8 wins is never pathetic. It's not great given the seemingly weak schedule, but not pathetic.

I don't see Barta making any decision. The major boosters had damn well better make it for him if we limp to 7 wins with this schedule, 2 new starting tackles or not.

I think, even if we were to win 9 every season between now and 2020, he is retiring. But if he lasts out the contract, the succession plan BETTER be in place by 2017 at latest.

Bob - No way on 2017...every year for the last three (3) people have continued to move the "Do something or else" date back another year....this season HAS to be the "or else".....or else! ***Snort***

The class of 2016 recruiting class is the last one that can expect to play for Ferentz their whole career, a 2017 recruit could if they don't redshirt. So after this season the lame duck recruiting angle starts working against Ferentz. At most he should have one more season. Any one year extension should be merely cosmetic to maintain recruiting stability. (insert your joke here about how great our last few classes have been)

Recruiting has and continues to be a joke....keeping KF around another year for any reason revolving around recruiting is ridiculous. Any recruit coming in should be responsible enough to have done some decent research in regard to the current coach and his situation....plain and simple.

Gophers have a nice group returning (especially on defense) but the 5.5 number is due to the schedule. 2 non-con home games where they will be underdogs (TCU and @ Colorado State). Plus a game @ OSU. Then throw-in possible losses @Northwestnern, @Iowa, home games with Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska.

Gophers could end up winning 7-8 games but would need some breaks to do so.
