read a column in the Gazette on Deuce Hogan and a quote that jumped out to me was “I am very influential, so I seem to get a lot of people to pull one rope in the same direction”. That reminded me of what James Vandenburg said of stanzi on Howe’s podcast which was on the lines of stanzi always making people around him better and that everyone just gravitated towards him. According to stanzi’s record as an Iowa Qb I’d say it’s awesome to see. If we could get another BCS winning QB I’m all for it. I like this kid a lot already. While I like all of the guys we have in Padilla Petras and Mansell, I just think he brings a certain edge. Idk 69 days til kickoff I’m bored as hell.

What he says is great, but I'd feel better if I saw others saying that about Hogan rather than Hogan saying those things about himself. And maybe they have, I don't know. We all know people in this world that aren't as good, smart, influential, or as popular as they think they are.

Yeah, you don't tell people you're a great leader....you show them. Others talk about it.
By the looks of his post season awards as a QB in the state of Texas I’d say he talks the talk and walks the walk lmao being a competitor and confident isn’t for everyone I guess. Thanks for putting yourself out there

Talking the talk and walking the walk is totally fine but let’s see you do it at next level. !! I’m all for one to be cocky but let’s dial that crap back a bit until you’ve proven yourself.

Hyper-aggressive handle telling others not to be cocky

Show me, baby. If this kid has the goods I can't wait to see him in black and gold.

Mansell has moxie as well and has overcome odds and succeeded at every level he's played. It should be interesting with those two personalities on the team and same position.

Yes I love Mansell’s moxie. Petras and Padilla seem like quieter dudes but I’m sure they’ll grow out of that as QBs....I’m more interested in seeing who transfers.

I need to look up moxie in the dictionary.

Is having moxie the same thing as having a big mouth?

Moxie/charisma/"It" are all great, but there is a fine line.

Want to take these characteristics to their extreme? Look across the border at the head coach of the Goofers. Or Harbaugh. Or even "Go Cats!" Man in Purple. These guys are all dynamic leaders, but they can also be annoying as hell.

I like what I am hearing out of Deuce so far, but it will be interesting to see what type of leader he develops into at the college level.

He has been "The Man" in high school. He won't be when he steps on campus. How does he adjust to having to be a quiet leader? A humble leader? One who shows respect to the upper classmen who have been busting ass for Iowa for 3-4 seasons already? Will he show his is able to shut up at first, and earn his stripes and work his way up the ranks?

Again, leadership is not just about Ra Ra speeches. There is a finesse to it too. I am excited to see Deuce on campus and see what he can become.

Oh, and he has to be able to throw a ball. Jake Christensen was a hell of a leader. Could not hit the broad side of a barn.

It's almost like he's trying to get his name out there and sell himself to the fans to win a popularity vote or to gain an advantage over the others. Not sure I like that. But, it could be an interesting 4 years.
