Iowa's offense WAS good last year...through two-thirds of the season. What changed? ARob concussion, Gettis and macmillan all injured vs MSU. Iowa's offense through that game was converting over 51% of third downs and averaging over 30 points.

It didn't hurt that the first two thirds of the season included Eastern Illinois, Iowa State, Ball State, and an absolutely terrible defensive team in Michigan. We scored 17 against Penn State and lost to the only good team we played in the first seven games...Arizona... and I don't think our offense exactly lit it up there either. They scored 17 there also, right. Prater recovered a fumble deep in Arizona territory, and Binns returned a pick six to get us back in that game. The last drive...well that was a premonition of things to come.

We also know that MSU was a pretender in a big way...ask Alabama. I think the argument that our offense was good the first two thirds of the season is somewhat of a stretch if you take into account the competition and the points we scored against the good or decent defensive teams.

Certainly losing the two guards hurt, but Arob, I would contend, was a wash with Coker's performance.

Here's how I see the Big Ten playing out in 2011. Since picking scores can be a tedious task, I decided to look at Iowa's schedule through the prism of a bygone era :)

BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Wisconsin @ Iowa.

I think we start off shaky and get it rolling down the stretch. 9-3 with losses to penn st, northwestern, and michigan. We will knock off nebraska on black friday to keep them out of the B1GCG. However, I think this could turn out to be a special season too (10-2, 11-1 & a BCS Bowl). The offense should be very good, and defensively it should be pretty tough to move the ball through the air (excellent pair of corners, great speed at LB). Lets just hope we can hold up against the run.

BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Wisconsin @ Iowa.

You are crazy if you think that Iowa will score 38 points against Nebraska, in Lincoln. Our defense has given up over 24 points exactly once in the past 2 years, and that was in a league that had good offenses.

You'll be lucky to score 20 in that game.

I'd say 10-2, losses to Msu and Neb. Big Ten is down this year. Iowa has a good chance to be the spoiler this year! If JVB and a D-Lineman other than Daniels and Binns steps up, the season could hinge on that. I wish Sash would have stayed then I could rest a little easier.

you better hope one trick pony Martinez learns how to throw the ball! We will play our base 4-3 and spy the qb!

I have to agree. There's no way we score 38 points against Nebraska's defense. However, I don't see Nebraska's offense putting up much against us either. I see a low-scoring defensive slugfest in this one.

I'll give it a try again and am going with 10-2 or better with losses to NW and Nebraska. I don't usually see the glass this full but something tells me things will fall together with minimal injuries and Ferentz will live up to his reputation in the underdog role.....the schedule doesn't hurt the cause either.

Last year I predicted (on this board) and 8-4 season with losses to AZ, tOSU, NW, and MSU.

P.S. I see Nebraska with 2 and likely 3 losses in the Big 10. Their offense remains questionable and I think they now face tougher defenses in the Big 10.

The Big 10 is a totally different level of competition from the B12N. There will be no making plans for Indy in August, this isn't the Big 12. Welcome to the Big Ten Nebraska...Your dose of reality is starts in October.

*sigh* I know I’ve said this ad naseum, but it’s funny how you all either totally dismiss the fact that we had to normally play 1 or 2 teams per year that annually competed for the MNC in Oklahoma and texa$$ (even T Tech in 2008), or you just have no understanding about how a 2 division league works. The B1G doesn’t (on an annual basis) have 2 teams that can match those teams.

To win the conference championship in the Big 12, you had to beat the best. You didn’t get the luxury of being able to dodge a Penn St, Michigan, or tOSU. The only reason why this year and the next will be different is because the powers that be at the B1G made sure that they stacked our schedule to get as many marquee games as they could, and to try to ensure that we don’t pull a Penn St (ala 1994).

74 Hunter -

So what's your prediction for Nebraska's record in conference play this upcoming season considering you don't have the annual traditional powerhouses like OK and TX to play anymore?

Should be a cake walk I would think. Why would any team coming out of the Big 12 (especially the North Div.) have to fear their schedule in the weak Big 10? We rarely have anyone contending for the NC like the Big 12.

.......and that conference record prediction for your Cornhuskers is ?

By the way, welcome to your team and good luck.

I don't think he is saying that the B10 is going to be a cakewalk at all. He is just defending their old schedule in which they played some of the top teams in the country as well. We have OSU, Wisky (and Iowa) and the B12 has Oklahoma and Texas (among others). They may have had some cupcakes, but we do as well (even though sometimes we don't make them look like cupcakes).

I won't speak FOR 74, but if I had to guess what he'd say....9-3 or 10-2. If QB isn't up to par, then 7-5 is possible, but he will go optimistic and say the former.

Understand........just having some fun. Missed his prediction he already made in this thread. I see it now I guess with 2 conference losses.

In any case, how are the fish tacos at Wahoo tasting these days?

I am very confused if talking to me.:confused:

Been to Longmont a few times and always enjoyed having lunch at Wahoo Fish Tacos with a few friends over a beer........casual business lunch.

Since they operate in only a few western states it's always a treat for me when I get the chance.

It’s pretty early to start saying exactly what anyone’s record will be. Injuries, transfers, etc. are going to play a part, and I’m not really overly familiar with any of the teams in the B1G. I’m not sure how our offense will perform, what it will do. Depth at most offensive positions is a question mark, but I think we have some pretty good young talent. I think that our defense will be good enough to keep us in most games. I don’t see a game on the schedule that scares me, or that I don’t think we have a chance at winning. That being said, an undefeated season is very, very difficult to achieve. If some things fall the right way, we get a little lucky here and there, I could see 1 or no losses, and if things fall apart, 5 or 6 losses could be felt.

I would say that realistically, 2 or 3 losses seems to be the most reasonable guess at this juncture.
