History of Iowa RB attrition

We all know that RB at Iowa seems to be cursed, or at least that seems that way, but is it really that bad? Without going into detail on previous years teams just how bad can it be in the last few years? Evidently this bad…

Going back to the 2007 (A player in this class would be a RS senior this year) recruiting class we have signed 7 players who played RB in HS. 5 of the 7 have left the program, one is injured with a heart condition (Rodgers) and one (Anthony Hitchens) changed positions. In addition we even had one former walk on leave (I believe A Rob was a walk on).
That just strikes me as absolutely insane.

Jevon Pugh: Gone
Jeff Brinson: Gone
Jewell Hampton: Gone
Nate Guillroy: Gone
Brandon Wegher: Gone
Brad Rodgers: Hurt
Anthony Hitchenes: Position Change
Adam Robinson: Gone

And of course to top it all off we’ve lost one of the 2011 RB recruits to a season ending injury on his 9th carry of the game.

Just Wow.

If you count Guillory, you may want to include Rodney Coe on the snake-bitten list? 4-star who didn't qualify (door is open for his return IIRC if he takes care of business in the classroom)

Here's a stretch for the list, but Shonn Greene left school early to enter NFL Draft although he was like Class of '05ish...

It seems very, very high for us. I'd be curious to have a comparison around the league though...maybe RB attrition is very high across the board? Probably not...but maybe?

you should make a list of RB's injuries for every year under KF and see how many years we made it through healthy at that position. maybe include the duration of the injury (3 weeks, season ending, ect).

Tehcnically SG is a part of two classes. I only looked at players that should be on the current roster and he didn't fit.

As far as Coe I guess I didn't count him because I wasn't sure he'd be a RB.

I don't believe that Adam Robinson was a walk-on, he was offered a 'ship at the last second because one became available. IIRC

Why is Anthony Hitchens on the list but not Marcus Coker?

Also, across almost all D1 schools, attrition at RB is higher than at any other position. It seems higher at Iowa than it does at other schools, but it isn't abnormal for RB to be more of an issue than other positions.

That could be. I thought he was a preferred walk on and know he got a schollie at some point just don't remember when. Regardless he isn't listed as a member of that class because when they signed he was a walkon.

Robinson had a schollie, so count him as one. Same with Coe, he said the coaches brought him in a RB, so count him as RB. Otherwise you are guilty of pulling a Deace......just adding things up the way you like! ;):D

Well we can't have that.

Running back at Iowa. The most dangerous position in all of college football.
