my half-assed guess is that this year, the computer was just overloaded -- not enough mental reserves to try to run the offense plus try to score. I had this with a kid -- started at pg for the jv as a frosh, then varsity sg as a soph, then back to pg as a junior when the starter graduated. he had the tools but couldn't put it all together that year -- and his shot selection and accuracy nose dived. the next year was better, but we found out he was an undersized hs 2, not a 1. when he played the 2, he had less to keep track of and thrived in the reduced role of shooter, rather than playmaker-shooter. maybe that's what was going on with gesell this year?

I hope that is it. I'm really hoping his shooting picks up next year, because right now it looks like that is going to hold him back from ever being more than an average pg. I thought we would see Gesell step up and become a quality third scoring option for the team this year, instead he regressed in every shooting category, especially over the last six games where he was just brutal shooting the ball when the team needed him most.
