Highlight Reel of gessel lay ups!

Not really worried about his game...he has struggled late but not as much as white or jo or McCabe. He will be fine.

Better thing would be for supposed fans to learn how to spell his name...GESELL

12/55 to end the year shooting. He's struggling as much as anyone on the team.

I know. It would be great to watch them all summer. If know someone who can put it together it would be great. Maybe they could add made free throws in the last two minutes of games too!

Ahh got to love tool fans ripping into players with their silly sarcasm.

Yes he struggled shooting...but he shot better from the line...continued getting assists...continued pushing the ball...my theory is he struggled but so did everyone else at times. Find me a player that didn't have bad things you can point out over the slide.

Gesell will start for Iowa at PG for every single game the rest of his career, barring injury.

Mark my words.

If you are seeing this as sarcasm, then you are the one guilty of ripping into players. Go find another team to cheer for!

That would be you that needs to go find a new team to cheer for...maybe be a real fan?

I'm not the one ripping on players. You are the one who seems to think Gesell isn't playing at the level you expect from a point guard in the big ten! Stop trolling!

Very good kid and good player. Couple calls he could have gotten but a couple times he was in no mans land and didn't deserve the call. It happens.

some of you guys are just stupid

mike is terrific on the secondary break

he is not yet proficient driving in the half court -- he still looks like he's understanding his role as pg at this level, and his decision making isn't as quick as it could be. he has the highest vert on the team and he has very good acceleration off his first step. what he lacks is the strength to convert against contact, and the nous to make the move at the right moment. except for 5-10 more lbs of strength, he has the tools right now; he just needs to complete the mental development.

if he doesn't, dickerson will do the job next year, and mike could return to the shooting role that he did well when he returned from injury his freshman year.

gesell is one of the better pieces coming back, and could very well be all b1g next year.

I've been saying it for some time. MG is not a top flight B10 PG. No entry passing ability.

Did you watch the game yesterday? He has shown great improvement in this ability. Of course I'd like to see him hit the post more but he had some outstanding post passes yesterday.

The biggest knack on him is his lack of scoring ability against BCS caliber conference teams. He has no floater and not enough length to sneak a quick layup in without it getting blocked. Maybe at least try reverse layups more. And yes his shot hasn't been going down. Despite that he is able to keep a decent assist number to turnover. But I do feel like it's possible he may be asked to come off the bench if Dickerson can keep turnovers down and add more scoring.

If he is going to take on a shooting roll then he better be able to shoot better than 37% from the field 30% from 3 the 67% from the FT..

If he can be just a distributor and not a guy who looks to score that much - it might suit him well at this point.

But if that's the case we need shooters surrounding him.

He still had the worst eFG% on the team before the last few games. IMO he desperately needs to develop a floater or go hard into the defender under the hoop because of of those layups are really weak. Like the kid, good future.

I can agree with this...most pgs unless they are athletic freaks need a floater.

his FT% was much better last year, and in the games where he played sg, his fg % was better than his season average of 40%.

my half-assed guess is that this year, the computer was just overloaded -- not enough mental reserves to try to run the offense plus try to score. I had this with a kid -- started at pg for the jv as a frosh, then varsity sg as a soph, then back to pg as a junior when the starter graduated. he had the tools but couldn't put it all together that year -- and his shot selection and accuracy nose dived. the next year was better, but we found out he was an undersized hs 2, not a 1. when he played the 2, he had less to keep track of and thrived in the reduced role of shooter, rather than playmaker-shooter. maybe that's what was going on with gesell this year?
