Hey Fry, an IHSAA update!

I've been streaming the Iowa boys UNI-dome FB semi's via the IHSAA website.

The Exec Director, Tom Keating, blabbers quite often, promoting the value of IHSAA.

His salary is $222K this year, plus, $56K in "other" compensation.

Wow.

Going to games throughout the past several years, I feel like I have more than paid his salary. It's pretty sad when a team goes to state and fans stay home because they can't afford to go to the games. It would cost over $100 for tickets alone for me to take my family to a game.

It's about $14 per ticket for next week's championship games.

One ticket gets you into 8 player, A, 1A and 4A champ games on Thursday.

$14 gets you two games Friday early...2A and 3A.

Then they kick you out and you have to buy another $14 ticket to view the later 5A game

I hate the IAHSAA. It’s a mafia racket and there’s no way a private corporation should be in charge of HS sports, ever. I like a couple of the employees I’ve interacted with but it’s a straight up organized crime group.

You know who decides how much Tom Keating makes from parents paying to watch their kids play sports at public schools in public buildings coached by public employees driven there in publicly-owned buses?

Tom Keating does.

Eff the IAHSAA. My kid graduating and never having to give them a dime ever again is the best thing ever. I go watch track and XC meets and baseball games because I love my son’s former teammates and coaches but those are free. My days of watching football, basketball, and anything postseason are over and I don’t feel bad about it.

That’s how I really feel.

And they know that if you have a kid at state track in more than one event, most likely those events are on different days. A kid running the 1600 or 3200 probably isn’t in the 200. So guess how many tickets you have to buy if your son or daughter runs on 3 different days?

And do we think they added a football playoff round because there were too many good teams being left out? Nope. They just have terrible teams play the likely state champs right away so they can double their blood money. There’s nothing more absurd than a 4-4 football team getting “Playoff Qualifier” t-shirts made.

Sorry, I’ll shut up now. My button on the topic is easily pushed.
