Hey announcers: Mich isn't beating themselves-- Iowa's D is!

The announcers have been pretty good, but they keep acting like Michigan's mistakes are all self-inflicted. How about acknowledging the fact that this is the whole point of Iowa's defense: take away the big play, make teams put together 12-15 play drives, and live with the results.

Michigan's yards have been built 4-6 at a time. It's not bad, but when they get to the red zone they have nowhere to go. Plus, when you scheme for Michigan, you know their quarterbacks can't hit covered receivers, and plan accordingly.

Oh, and Iowa would have a lot more yards if they ever had to go more than 50 yards for a touchdown. 28 points is all that matters.

I disagree. These announcers have been a bunch of clowns the whole game. I'm not sure there was 10 seconds that went by in the first half where Denard Robinson's name wasn't mentioned! No credit given to Iowa WHATSOEVER. It's all "Michigan's mistakes". Dumbasses that know nothing about Iowa football.

WHile Iowa has done what they do, Michigan has done plenty to hurt themselves. The fumble was huge. On the first Int. there was a guy wide open who would have had the first down. The penalties have also been crazy. Iowa is doing what they need but Michigan has made far too many mistakes to even be in the game.

Whatever, Clown. Have fun getting your *** stomped once again! Fitting you're over here given your season was over last week.

First of all, they aren't in the game, and haven't been since the second quarter.

Second, THIS IS THE WHOLE POINT of Iowa's defensive scheme. Norm Parker talks about it explicitly. As long as you aren't playing against Peyton Manning, if you take away what a team likes to do and make them put together 10-15 plays to score, more often than not they are going to do something stupid. It's not a coincidence.

^ no guff. I complained to my wife about that ... she didn't care.

"See, honey, they did NOT cut the lead in half ... they have half as many points. Can you believe these homers?"

still didn't care.

Ah, yes, that's what I said.

Iowa's D blew it on 2 long pass plays. Hyde screwed up big ... forgetting that he had responsibility to cover his back third (he cheated inside) ... and Prater got caught letting the WR get better position for the ball. I suppose that he was afraid that it would be a jump ball and he didn't want to get outjumped (so he opted to the backside). Unfortunately, the ball dropped early and Prater was caught terribly out of position to make the play on the ball.

Apart from those issues ... I don't really feel bad about how Iowa had LBs on WRS. Quite frankly, Michigan's WRs are an impressive bunch. There aren't that many other groups of WRs who Iowa's secondary matches up worse against.

The game was frankly closer than it should have been. However, Michigan deserves massive props for coming back in the 4th and making it more of a game. I think that Forcier and the WRs especially deserve some credit there.

Fortunately, the "good guys" ended up on the positive side of the scoreboard.

I don't understand why we weren't trying to put more pressure on Forcier. We let him sit there in the pocket and pick us apart. Cousins will do the same thing if we give him that kind of time. MSU has some very talented receivers as well, to go with an impressive running game. The secondary definitely needs to tighten up. Was also disappointed that Sash wasn't head-hunting on some of those routes. He had the opportunity to dismantle Michigan receivers a couple of times, but didn't. That's where I wish we had someone like a Bobby Sanders who would make you think twice about coming across the middle.

Excellent analysis as usual.
