Here’s The Schools That Had Multiple First Rounders

I agree completely with you, however, for polar opposite reasons. A bunch actually, truly feel Iowa football is on par with the upper echelon when in reality, it couldn’t be any further from the truth. Even the vaunted defense has had its share of many an embarrassing moment on national tv. When Ferentz says we aren’t sexy, he’s not kidding
losing is part of the game, plenty of good teams and great offenses and defenses have been humbled. If you can count those on 1 or 2 hands throughout a decade, your opinion isn't based in reality my friend.

Would the average Hawk fan prefer IA win a conference title once a decade but finish every other year below .500 or win 9-10 games every season but no conf titles?
It shouldn’t be an “either/or” proposition. Especially in the b10w & with his traditional non-conference schedules

I like that our draftees often come ready to play. That says something good about the coaching. We can be excellent on Defense and Special Teams and still be a good Offense.

Not only are they ready to play, but they are ready for growth. Iowa guys learn how to handle their business, so they do the things they need to do to improve once they hit the league. Many great recent examples of this: AJ Epenesa, Geno Stone, Chauncy Gholston, Anthony Nelson, etc.

Back to numbers, FWIW....

From 2000 on:
31 offensive players drafted
42 defensive players drafted

(repost)
2000-2017
23 Offensive players drafted
WR-3 (.176/year)
QB-2 (.117/year)
RB-2 (.117/year)
TE-8 (.47/year)
Linemen-15 (.88/year)

2018 onwards (counts players who played at least one full year with Brian as the OC)
8 offensive players
WR-1 (.1666/year)
QB-1 (.1666/year)
RB-0 (0/year)
TE-3 (.5/year)
Linemen-3 (.5/year)

Offensive linemen drafted: (separating out Brian's time as OL coach)
2000-2012: 13 (1.0833/year)
2013-2017: 3 (.75/year)

New:
Data on defense:

I separated DBs out, since the only year (according to Wikipedia) Phil was not listed as the DB coach.
2000 onward
.75 DBs/year
1.83/defensive players per year

Pre Phil as OC
.769 DBs/year
1.846 total defensive players per year

Post Phil as OC:
.727 DBs/year
1.818/defensive players per year

I know the data gets slim and one or two players can make a difference. I think there is some interesting bits in here. Tight end success. Also, specifically, changes in the offensive linemen numbers. What that actually means? Who knows. There's far better data to make the insinuated argument suggested by those numbers than draftees.
