Here we go again...the bowl system is a mess

A mess, laughable, desperate, T-Rex syndrome. Forty(!) bowl games in all. Forty! Good Lord.

I'm witnessing things I've never seen before, even in the muck and the mire known as the bowl system. They are truly floundering to fill up their worthless games with over priced tickets, with the end product being 1/2 empty stadiums.

To wit:

#1--The Arizona Bowl picked two teams from the same conference

#2--They ran out of teams who met the laughable criteria of merely being 6-6 or better to quality.
This year, the mother-ship NCAA stepped in and put together criteria for 5-7 teams to go.
Criteria....get this...baed on academic stature. It's so absurd it's almost criminal.
So, instead of tightening up the criteria and simply telling the have-nots they're no longer needed/wanted, they invented bogus ones.

#3--And who are these fine, outstanding institutions being blessed for their academic standing? There were three....

Nebraska of course, @ 5-7. (Foster Farmers Bowl)
San Jose State (Cure Bowl)
Minnesota (Quick Lane Bowl)....I guess Neb's and Minney's losses to Iowa looked pretty impressive too.

At least the consolation-prize Big-6 bowls (which you have to sit around like a dog waiting for a treat to get named to) have some dignity remaining.

What the NCAA and Corporate Sponsorships are doing is really not much different from what gangsters and loan sharks do who make predatory loans. While the bankers wear three-piece suits and don't break the knee caps of those who can't pay back, they still are destroying people's lives. The games are rigged, the bowl prices are rigged, and top 1 tenth of 1 percent is benefiting from it all. Hawkeye fans, I urge you to go to www.berniesanders.com and let's have a revolution to fix this corrupt, political, bowl system.

So, yeah, I can gripe. But do I have a solution? You bet I do.

First of all, make it an 8-team playoff.
Auto bids for the conf champs. Not in a conf, too bad, you don't get consideration.
Seed them 1-8. First round game = home game for the higher seed.
Semi's and finals as they are now.

And, OK I suppose, have the CFP cartel designate to the remaining top (how ever many important bowls they consider there to be) bowls who the participants are. I guess they call them the Big-6 or something.

Finally, tighten up the lesser-bowl-criteria so the minimum is 7-5 overall and .500 or better in conference play. Don't meet that? You don't go.

It'll make the bowls season nationally relevant again. Hell, they might even sell some tickets.

Bowl games are a reward for the kids who do not get paid...Let them have fun and prepare for next season with the extra practices. Don't watch the games if you are butt hurt. Pretty simple

Do not understand this argument.

How is the Foster Farmers Bowl a reward?

The players will work more and the school will get more money and the kids will get nothing.

the athletes get "goodie bags" as a gift at the bowl games....Plus the underclassmen get game time experience and extra practices. Do you think Iowa somehow did not benefit from the extra reps?

Adding a bunch of new bowls doesn't make the good bowls less relevant. It's just that the new bowls never become relevant.

100% right on.

Bowls shouldn't be a black participation ribbon for simply showing up.
Bowls should be a *program* reward for a season based upon reasonably obtained success.
Sub 500 teams? Two teams from the same conference? Really?! Even 6-6 teams are a joke.

And do you think Nebby or Minney is going to parade their Cure/whatever-bowl participation trophy to recruits?

It truly has de-evolved into a sad sad situation.

Do you feel this upset at the teams that play in the NIT, CBI, or CIT tournaments.

If Colorado St vs. Central Michigan on Dec 21st ruins college football for you then that is a you problem.

Doesn't ruin it for me in the least. I have not, do not and will never tune it in. Any of it. And that includes the CBI, NIT...all of it.

The bowl mockery splashes feces on the game I love. The best game in the world.

Tighten up the criteria. Make the post-season great again.

You don't think college kids enjoy playing the game?

Ask them...at this stage of the season and you're 6-6 or 5-7, it's a grind. Since August. It's now December.

"Hoo Boy...we *get* fifteen more practices so we can go to the Farmer's bowl!"

Don't think they're saying that about now.

So it doesn't ruin it for you but it splashes feces on the game you love?

Again, how does a game on dec 21st take away anything from the games in January? (Answer: it doesn't, you are just grumpy)

Sure they are. 99% play because they love it and will never make a living from it. I guarantee a vast majority would always take one more chance to strap up.

Yeah, what about that don't you understand?

And as for #2, see #1.

Not grumpy at all. Simply a pragmatic fella who sits and shakes his head at the money grabbers this time of year...at college football's expense.

Once again, tighten up the criteria. Make the post-season college football season mean something.
