Here is your MUST READ of the day

Unfortunately, college football has changed dramatically. You win with offense now, not defense. Offense must come first (including the fact that the rules favor the offense; holding is never called; receivers are protected; etc. etc.). Look at the scores of the playoff games: The winning teams were in the 40s.

I disagree.

What do the following names have in common, besides being hired as a new head coach in 2015; Ryan, Del Rio, Fox, Bowles, Tomsula (and likely Dan Quinn will go to Texas)?

All of them came from a defensive coaching background.

While I agree the offensive flow for football in general has sped up, and KF has not kept pace with that change, defense is still the key to championships.

Dave from CFB Matrix takes a look at some of the things Ferentz said yesterday....and refutes them with data.

I luved it. Jon was quoted at the end and I found it very interesting. Jon said, (paraphrasing) "I hope Kirk turns it around and goes out a winner. Because he deserves it."

As Kirk himself has said many times to the public: "People tend to get what they deserve."

I agree with that. Now if Kirk were to win a national title this year and retire he would indeed go out a winner and his legacy would be intact. But if Kirk makes the mistake of JoePa and sticks around too long then he will have earned whatever legacy he gets. JoePa was a pretty smart man. Ambition can bring smart men to their knees. I choose to believe Kirk is smarter than JoePa. There may be no higher praise to be given within the coaching fraternity.

Dave and his numbers didn't like the Hawks this either. They have him on a local Omaha sports talk show weekly. His numbers predicted losses on three different games so far.

Sorry Dave. Your numbers lied.

So the writer uses novel statistics to prove what we already know by looking at scoring offense, scoring defense - common stats. Sounds like intellectual masturbation if you asked me.

Nothing new is revealed.

I tend to agree with hawker. As Viking HC Bud Grant said many times during his coaching career, "stat's, aka data as in this case, are for losers."

Believe what you want, but right now UI is undefeated and ranked nationally in the top 10.

Given the author is a PAC 12 alum, and if IA makes it, more that likely no P-12 team will make the play offs. He's also an ESPN contributor; we all know that network's mantra against the B1G in general and IA specifically by either ignoring or bashing.

For me personally, this was not a good read, and merely provide a platform to again and again bash KF, the B1G, and UI. Most responding posts were reminiscent of the bashing threads that preceded this one.

BTW hawker, you could go blind by reading this article.
