Heard Around the BTN Offices today...

-Spoke with someone that was in Iowa City last week for the night practice that will air tomorrow night on the BTN. Keep in mind that the BTN is only around for one day, typically.

Said Indiana's defense didn't look great...which is to be expected. Northwestern didn't have a very good day of practice when they were in town, either.

I told him my biggest concern with Iowa is their offensive line. He looked at me, and right away said 'I wouldn't be worried about it based on what I saw.' and I got a grin on his face and he grinned back...was good to hear.

I was in town for a rehearsal of 'The Pulse', the show I will be co-hosting with LeCharles Bentley. It will air Thursday nights at 8PM CENTRAL. It's going to be all opinions...we'll probably dance close to the flames on a few topics that might get some folks at Big 10 schools a bit sideways, but we have the BTN's blessing...just be respectful is the way I am looking at it.

The show will also have huge fan involvement...from twitter, email and more...there will be entire segments devoted to what the fans have to say on issues, and there will be polls where you get to pick a side and after LeCharles and I give our opinions on a topic, we reveal what the 'Big Ten Nation' has to say about it...I think the reveals will be cold to us, so we'll see what you have to say after we speak our peace.

I can't begin to tell you what a first class operation the BTN is...the studios are state of the art, the control room is out of this world and the people are some of the best in the industry at what they do...even the makeup specialists used to work on the Oprah show ;)

When you walk in that place, you feel like you have stepped into the Big Time. I am not saying that about myself, because we have a long way to go to polish the edges...I am talking about everyone else...but also it's expected of you, because you are there and they chose you to be there...you had better bring it or get left behind.

I hope you all a) watch it b) take part in the interactivity and c) enjoy it.

AWESOME.

Thats great news about the O-line
im glad the show is opinionated, you will rep the hawks well cant wait to watch it

Good news on the O line.

I'll watch for sure if for any other reason than Iowans like to see other Iowans succeed.

Gratz.

It sounds like the BTN is a reflection of the Big Ten - first class all the way.

I can already sense a possibly dynamic emerging between me and LeCharles...I tend to stick up for the David's of the conference (Iowa, Wisconsin, etc) where he may side more with the elites given his OSU background. It will create some good debate.

So which one of you will play Colin and which one will play Michelle?:D

That is great about the Offensive line. I hope they play fast, and together, right out of the gate. No false starts in the first quarter would say a lot.

And good for you on this gig, Jon. You've earned it. Time flies, so be sure to stop and smell the roses along your journey. Hopefully, that'll be in January! Maybe even a Desert Rose?!!:)

It's amazing how far that operation has come in three years.

Jon, are you going to be on every week?

It's really only been 3 years? Seems like a lot longer, but that's probably because they didn't take long to make it an elite network, and it's run smoothly from Jump Street.

Somebody was retelling the 'rough' early days stories today in the BTN offices.how there was so much fighting between the cable companies and the BTN...and how very few radio shows or media outlets let the BTN explain their side of things...he then pointed at me and said 'Except for you. Looks like that didn't hurt you any.' and he chuckled.

At that time, I gave a BTN Exec a standing offer to come on the show whenever he had 'news' back then, and he took me up on that a few times. I just felt like the BTN was going to be great for fans, of which I am one.

Fast forward three years later, to last month, the day I auditioned for the show but just before the auditions and I had no idea how I even got the call to audition for it,...I saw the same Exec in the BTN offices and said 'Yeah, I am here to interview for The Pulse. Not sure how that happened.'

He smiled and said 'Well, if you don't do well, then I won't take any responsibility,' laughed, and walked off.

Moral of the story for the youngsters out there: don't be afraid to plant seeds because you never know when you will have a chance to reap the harvest, and never burn a bridge ;)

Thanks for the update, Jon. I'm excited to catch the premier of your show!
Any Charissa Thompson sightings yet?? :p

Any concern about the Bentley lawsuit vs. Cleveland Browns (MRSA staph infection that ended his NFL career?)

I am guessing no. Why would there be? I didn't bring it up. And we signed our deals well after that was public knowledge.

Didn't Bentley have knee surgery that turned into some sort of infection that further hampered his rehab with the Browns a few years ago?

I remember him a little from tOSU days and then with the Saints as they are my favorite team.

Kinda followed his career after he got traded and remember some bad things with his knee.

Does he limp?

I've never been all that terrified about our O-Line play. KF rebuilds offensive lines in his sleep and their technique is almost always top-notch. It also doesn't hurt that they play against the best D-Line in the country every day. The guys I'm watching the most are Gettis and whoever winds up at C. If they can get it going early, the line should look plenty solid by the time the Big Ten season starts.
