Hawks in position to finish 6th by themselves

The Hawk's traded a weak OOC for the need to win at the end if the season, which I agree with as the young team needed to build confidence.

I think it is funny that people are now looking at late season must-win games and gripping. Sorry, but they have a way better chance to win these types of games now than early in the season.

and they would have fared better against the conference strength and actually had some decent wins if they'd played a harder schedule.

Don't buy the "poor little Hawks attitude". They completely had the deer in the headlight look at that point. They still haven't beaten a proven team. MN gave up. that injury killed them. They have no depth.

Possibly, but there's no way of knowing this. Against what teams did Iowa have the "deer in the headlights look"? Was it in the four point loss to second ranked Indiana or the three point loss to MSU without Marble?

Like everyone else...on tv. This guy is so animated, constantly on the refs. I'm not sayin' FM is perfect in that department, but Groce takes it to the next level sometimes....

Most of his animation comes from cheering his team, not anger. Been watching the same games and been there live.

For starters? Michigan. They were dazed against WSU. MSU regardless of what you think, they had that all the way and played awful. It was likely pushing bricks up hill.

If you guys are wringing hands over a team in 6th place, the battle is lost and silly. If they finish higher, which is possible, then we have something.

Sounds like hoping Iowa gets to a winning season next year. Horrible standards.

Michigan? The game they started up 7-0 and hung tough until right before the end of the half? There wasn't any deer in the headlights moments in that game, it was just a team that was much better than Iowa and a bad matchup for them.

The Michigan St game was also not a deer in the headlights game, it was a game where we were missing our best player and just couldn't find ways to score down the stretch, not because we weren't ready for the Spartans.

And saying Iowa fans shouldn't be excited about a 6th place finish is just some silly arbitrary standards you are pretending to hold fans too. What makes a 3rd place finish any better? Still means we didn't win the conference? What makes a Final Four berth so exciting, just means you got close but couldn't win the tournament? Only fans of one team should be excited at the end of each year, right?

That isn't much of a surprise to any of us. Please post of pic of yourself in your orange crush gear.

I don't think IL is a troll. However, I also don't think it understands that people are celebrating consistent improvement rather than Iowa being "back" completely.

If Lickliter were still here wouldn't even come close to 16 wins by this season's end.

It clearly is there for the B10 to send 6, or even possibly 7 teams if something remarkable happens. But, I could just as easily see Iowa, Minny, and Illinois end up at 21 or fewer wins and get left out.

Remarkable? I didn't know this was an opinion anyone had. It would be remarkable if the Big Ten got less than 7. In fact, it's not going to happen: Illinois's resume is so good and Minnesota's RPI is so high that neither will be left out.

Minnesota will get left out if they can't right the ship. RPI isn't the only factor.

We easily make the tournament if we finish in the top 60% of this conference. I think we got this easily. Easily. Bro.

It is not the only factor but one of the factors and right now Minnesota has to high of an RPI to be considering them off the bubble. They have played 20 games against the RPI top 100 and have won 11 of them. They are ranked 2nd in SOS and 13th in OOC SOS. Their only bad loss right was @ Northwestern. IMO they would have to lose the rest of their games to get left out.

In my opinion, that's the point. Except that they are now ON the bubble. Two weeks ago they were solidly in the tourney. Now they are a bubble team.

GO HAWKS!!!

No way is Minnesota a bubble team right now. Show me a single bracketologist that has Minnesota on the bubble.

I'm looking ahead a bit here. I suspect Minnesota will lose their next 2 games and then win their last 3. I think they will be a bubble team if/when they drop to 6-9 in the conference.

Well considering if Minny loses 2 then wins 3 they will be 21-10 (9-9) and if Iowa ends with a 4-1 record on the last 5 games they would also be 21-10 (9-9) record with Iowa and Minny splitting they head to head games 1-1. Minny's RPI I believe will keep them in the tourney but I think Iowa will be the bubble team at that point. They will need a win or two to get them probably based solely on their RPI.

Minny's worst loss right now is Northwestern, then Iowa, then Illinois.
