Hawks Finish 38th in Final Poll of the Year

Wow! That's incredible and deserved. I wonder when something that drastic happened. What about the 1st year Butler made it to the championship game?

Both years Butler made the title game they ended up ranked #2. However, the first year they made it and lost to Duke they were ranked 8th in the final poll before the NCAA Tourney. The 2nd year they made it and lost to UCONN they went from unranked in the final poll before the tourney to #2 in the final poll of the year.

Lordy, I missed that one.

I get their run, but they aren't a Top 5 team.

I agree and I thought maybe it was an unwritten rule of the voters to have the Final Four teams be the top four in the final poll but that isnt the case.

George Mason finished 8th back in 2005-2006 and VCU finished like 6th the year they made the Final Four.

Thanks!

Why not? With a healthy Baker and Hall they sure look like a top 5 team. Not sure who else I would put over them.

Duke and Ohio State (yes, I know WSU beat OSU).
I just think, overall, looking at their years, both of those programs were better.
WSU just had a better run at the end.

How was I celebrating? Just pointing out that Iowa received votes in the final poll as there was a thread on the board during the NIT run asking if the Hawks would be ranked at the end of the year.

I'll hang up and listen.

Way to point that out. It is an astonishing feat.

Yeah, but I think you have to take into account all the injuries the Shockers had. With a healthy squad we saw what they did to OSU, and I have a hard time seeing Duke being able to beat them either.

I definitely won't argue with that at all. Just my opinion.

I find it silly that someone looks at the results of a poll and says we were ranked 38th. Getting the 38th highest amount of points is not the same as being ranked 38th. They don't ask you to rank the top 40 teams. When they vote they rank their top 25. Since they don't rank beyond that I don't see how anyone can claim we were ranked 38th.
