Hawks and B10 Tourney

This post assumes Iowa will finish 9-9 and at least 1 game ahead of the 6 teams previously mentioned. I really don't like the idea of being the 8 seed. So I want to find at least 1 more team at 8-10.

Michigan (6 losses and 0-4 on the road) - @ IN, WI, @ MN, @ RUT, PU, @ NW and @ NE

So Iowa looks very well positioned to be the 7 seed...a perfect draw IMO. I think we have to win the BTT to make the NCAA. And I think the 7 seed gives us the best chance to make that run.

Since we beat michigan, they can go 9-9 and we would still be ahead of them baring other teams tied.

Do they still have have bracket simulator? It's always fun to play with that

I've already done it a few times. Before the loss to minny, I found a reasonable path to the 1 seed (as far as what other teams had to do). Not so much anymore.

Yep. But I can't see them losing less than 10 games. Their schedule is brutal.

Looking at the schedules Illinois looks like the favorite for the 8 seed. But it's almost a given that Groce will lose at least 1 more game he should win.

I haven't looked at the tiebreakers for tournament seeding...since last year. But they may have to go down a ways on the list this year. It's looking like 7-11 and 8-10 is going to involve multiple teams.

I just ran it with Iowa winning out at home...and a lot of guessing in some 50-50 games.

1 WI
2 PU
3 MD
4 NW
5 MSU
6 MN
7 IA
8 OSU
9 NE
10 IN
11 MI
12 IL
13 PSU
14 RUT

Note - I had OSU, NE and IN at 7-11 with MI, IL and PSU at 6-12. So changing just 1 game moves seeding all over the place because of tiebreakers. But I think there's a very good chance the top 7 are correct...maybe not in that order...considering there is a 2 game gap between Iowa and the next 3 and a 3 game gap between MN and those same 3 teams.

The 7 seed plays at 5:30 Thursday (ESPN2) and at 5:30 Friday (BTN)...if we win. I don't really want to take half a day of vacation Thursday and Friday...8/9 seed plays at 11 a.m. both days. I ran other scenarios and it's hard to find a probable one that drops us below 7th.

Let's say you get an Iowa/OSU in a 7/10 game. Who would you rather face? Maryland or Purdue. And before you call me on it I am disregarding Northwestern.

The 6 seed is a night game if it's the same as previous years. That's what I'm hoping for. That means we need Minnesota to lose more. Did you have them 1 game ahead of us Winsor?

I think he does read post(#45). He stated a 2 game gap between Iowa and the next group which he projected them to be 7-11......And a 3 game gap between Minnesota and the next group. If I understood it correctly, he has Minnesota at 10-8, Iowa 9-9.

That's what I was thinking too. Gunna be tough to pass them with the tiebreaker.

This is what I get today.

For us to pass MN they have to lose a home game and we have to win a road game...most likely.

It's crazy to think if we could have just closed out Nebraska and Minnesota, and beat a crappy Illinois team, we would be one game out of first place right now. What an unlucky year to have this schedule.

The 7 seed is slipping away. We have to win a road game...with Michigan losing 2 out of 4. Or Michigan has to lose to 3 out of these 4...@ RUT, PU, @ NW and @ NE.

Iowa could easily lose 3 out of the next 4. They are not winning at Wisconsin and winning at Maryland is unlikely. After what I saw Saturday I don't know how anyone is confident they can beat Indiana.

Every game is winnable this year just like every game is loseable. And anyone who watches college basketball knows that how a team looks one day has nothing to do with how they will look the next. If anything, losing to Illinois helps our chances for later games because it's more likely future teams will take us more lightly.

Agreed. Did anyone expect Northwestern to go into Wisconsin and win the game after losing to Illinois at home? I don't expect Iowa to be able to go to Wisconsin or Maryland to win, but it can happen.

Very True and especially True with this Iowa Hawkeyes team!!

I agree, this team will win the big 10 tournament. The young players are hungry to do well in it, and they are ready to run the table.
