Hawkeyes Waste Coppin State

They've beaten a good team (IU) not sold on North Carolina who I really don't think is much better than Iowa State. Obviously they've had a tougher schedule but they've struggled with some bad teams and lost by 15 to Xavier, who kind of sucks.

Anyways, I think Iowa and Butler finish about the same at the end of the year in, whatever ranking system you use.

Sagarin, Kenpom and Realtime RPI all have Iowa and Butler pretty close. It's early enough in the year where rantings like that are pretty flawed but one can take it for what it's worth.

I agree with most of what you said, except for the UNC=ISU thing, which is absurd. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Iowa does in the BoneG. I honestly have no read on how Iowa will fare against decent competition.

UNC hasn't beat a single team with a pulse. Their second best win is Gardner Webb.

I'm not so sure that it's a stretch to say that North Carolina and Iowa State will finish similarly. Beating North Carolina on a neutral court is better than beating Iowa State though.

None of this really matters though. The point was just to say that we can beat Indiana.

On an unrelated note, I think we had 10 dunks that game. I wonder how long its been since we've had that many in a game.

I never meant that it was impossible. I honestly have no clue. I doubt we will, but we have not played a team with anything like IU's depth or talent, so who knows. I wish we would have played a decent team this non-con.

Well my heart of course wants Iowa to win, but if I was forced to lay $50,000 on the winner of the game it would have to be on Indiana. The Butler game was an in state rivalry and we all know what that's all about in Iowa. If the officiating allows Zeller to push, shove, and bully his way under the basket like he likes to do then it won't even be a close game. If they call a tight game and take that away from Zeller then we might have a fighting chance.

Back on topic...

That CS team was one of the worst I've ever seen play Iowa. Period. (Not detracting from the win....just sayn). They had to call a timeout about 30 seconds into the game to figure out how to break a press, hard almost zero 2nd-chance points, poor shooters.

CHA, while supporting a decent turnout (our section was full), barely had a pulse most of the afternoon. Seeing Fang get T'd up hardly stirred up the home-folks.

Strange win....no 3-pointers as mentioned, lackluster crowd support, matching the effort on the floor, yet a 30 point win.

Oh well....back to 'normal' on the 31st!

I am sure the sluggish win was more because of who they were playing than anything else. But Iowa will not win to many B1G teams going 0-17 from threes, 20 turnovers, and shooting 58% free throws.

The only good thing I see out of this win is getting some playing time for the back end of the bench for players like Olesani and Ingram. That experience could pay off if Iowa gets players into foul trouble in B1G play.

Gabe may be very much needed to win a game or 2... notice Mel's ankle problems.

Pat Ingram may be needed... note Josh's injury problems.

That is what is great about Coach Fran's building of this team and the program. Iowa is deep. Fran will still continue to recruit the very best players to win and become deeper.

At the same time Fran knows it's about chemistry and team play. Shout outs to May, Mel and McCabe to WINNING roles coming off the bench. "No problem Coach.. we are all winners!"

IOWA is BACK

Wouldn't you want to wait till big 10 play starts before saying that?
