Hawkeyes Up 3 Spots to No. 16 in New AP Poll

Haha. This made my week. That "blue blood" to the west can't even outrank the Hawks. So much for their thousand page thread about Iowa's basketball recruiting. Proof that they should worry about their own team instead of wasting their time talking about the Hawks team filled with unathletic white spider monkeys who are all stretch 4's. These ugly white spider monkeys just passed your punk *** in the rankings!

It has been a tough year for Clown fans. Iowa gets deeper in the NCAA tournament than ISU in the spring. ISU wins 3 games in football while Iowa wins 12, is relevant all year long, makes a run at the playoffs, and goes to a Rose bowl.......finally when BB season rolls around, they need a miracle to beat Iowa in Hilton, and now they get passed by dem Hoks in the rankings.

Maybe this is why for the first time in HN history there isn't Clown trolls roaming around posting sh!t.

Just wait until Steve Prohm has to rely on his own recruits. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep it going. My prediction is that he cannot - not at Hoiberg's level, anyway. FH was a recruiting machine, even if several of his recruits had some baggage.

I give Hoiberg a lot of credit for recognizing he wasn't just going to go head-to-head against the Kansas and Duke's of the world to win high school recruits. He saw the transfer market as a way to get talent. And it worked in spades. Complemented it with quality high school players like Morris and Niang.

Like any new coach, only time will tell with Prohm. The injury to Long was bad luck, but to date he hasn't got the Cyclones playing consistently with a sense of urgency aligned with their high ranking. That team is plenty capable of a deep NCAA run if given the right bracket, but realistic chance for conference title is likely out the window already.

Absolutely. ISU wasn't in much better shape than Iowa was (at the time) when Hoiberg was hired, and he did what he had to to get some quick talent into the program. Yeah, he wasn't going to out-recruit KU, etc. He had to take some chances, but it really paid off.

I shouldn't write off Prohm too quickly (I'm not) it just seems unlikely he'll be able to keep the talent level where it is, in the long run. I'm guessing it'll be a Raveling/Davis situation, but we'll see.

Agreed - the talent is there to be dangerous in March, but 2 games behind KU already doesn't bode well for a conference title. Pretty much gotta run the table at home, get some big wins on the road and at least split with KU, to have a chance at that league crown.

Guess this isn't an ISU thread, though. Hawks at #16. Very nice.

It will be interesting to see how it all ends up.

How can they be 2 games behind Kansas for the conference title when the tournament hasn't even started yet?

Disagree about Freddie's recruiting. The first couple year that was a great strategy, and it really turned around the program faster than what could have been done with HS recruits.

That said Freddie should have turned to the HS kids and start nabbing them, but for some reason he kept bringing in the transfers instead. Once he got Niang and then Morris and Thomas in the next class he should have kept the HS recruits coming in. All were pretty highly rated HS kids. Instead Fred brings in Edozie, Bluford, Cooke, BDJ, Tsalmpouris, Custer....On top of that, Fred has ZERO kids signed for the '15 class when he leaves at the end of the year. How do you even let that happen???

ISU isn't going to hit a lull because of Prohm, but rather because Fred hated recruiting, and it showed his last two years for sure. I said as much several time while it was happening. BryceC disagreed with me.....and like usual Clone fan just couldn't see what was happening right in front of his face.

It's pretty clear in hindsight that Fred's goal was getting to the NBA. Now Prohm will take the blame for the lack of depth and he'll be unable to accomplish much with this years team because they play like a bunch of divas. Next year they will fall and fall hard.

I was saying Fred was punting on recruiting for 2 years, and Bryce and other Clones disagreed with me. Fred spent little time recruiting and the time he did was spent chasing two 1 and done kids and came up empty both times. He should have been concentrating on #50-#100 kids that he had signed before, and could easily have signed more of that quality of kids.

Agreed. Where are all these Clones now? They don't have the "well what about basketball" card to play anymore so it's crickets. Even on CyFan there's an almost creepy silence in regards to Iowa. Their rankings thread from today fell off the front page pretty quickly because no one wants to comment on it.

On an unrelated note. Has anyone seen Indiana's conference schedule? They play Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa twice. If we had that easy of a schedule we would have a really good chance to win the conference.

We will just continue beating the good teams and wait for tom crean to do tom crean like things.

Tough to even Crean away that schedule though. There is probably about a 3 win difference between their schedule and ours.

Hmmm ... Knocking an undefeated team for playing a noticeably weak schedule ... Sounds familiar but I just can't place where I've heard that before.

 ;)
