Hawkeyes Show Consistency

Are you talking about mid season rankings or end of year results?
I'm talking about the end of season record that we just posted. Or better results than any 1 season Fran has coached til this point. What are you talking about when you say "better times ahead". If you are suggesting he will coach us to more than 20 wins again, I agree. Or you are suggesting he will do better than a 3rd place finish and 2nd rd appearance. I wanted clarification.

As far as win totals, I'm not sure he will do better than the NIT Championship game run year. I would say he will almost certainly have better seeds in the NCAA tournament than a 7 and will at least make sweet 16s.

I take that back. He will do better than 25 wins. I forgot they only went 9-9 in conference that year.

And for the record - I'm not jumping up and down about an 11 seed in the first four, and two 7 seeds, but considering where we were a couple years before that, I think Fran's done a good job of getting us back to respectability. It's a nice start. I'd like to see where he can take it from here instead of just firing the guy and keeping the revolving door spinning.

If a few years from now we're not able to do any better than what we've seen, than yeah, I'll be the first to admit that's as far as Fran can take us and that things may be feeling stale.. Time will tell.

This is where I am at.

To me it will depend on recruiting if the next 3 years aren't better than the last 3. If it's worse I'll be ready to move on. If it's the same and recruiting sucks, I'll be ready to move on. If it's the same and recruiting is better, I'll be OK with it.

Consistency is good and it's something to build on. But now that FM has the program on solid footing again, it's time to raise the stakes and win a B1G title. I look at Indiana and how wildly inconsistent they've been over the last 4-5 years. But in that time, they've also won 2 outright B1G titles. I'd take that over consistency any day....

I get it in football, but in basketball, why does a conference title even matter?

I'm good with this line of thinking.

He is waiting for Iowa's version of Coach K......which given the odds will never happen.

Wait, Coach K took a team over that had been an NCAA finalist at 27-7 in 1977-78 and and an Elite 8 team at 24-9 in 1979-80 under Bill Foster and went 17-11 (NIT) in 80-81, 10-17 in 81-82, and 11-17 in 82-23. Coach K should have been fired after 3 years with what he did with the program. :)

Here's a crazy thought. When you're paid to make huge decisions that can be worth millions of dollars, you have to look at more than just results to form an opinion. It's easy for message board guy to say results are all that matters. But the big boys have to use reasoning to reach a decision. They need to dig deeper than just the end results to make an informed decision on how likely it is for a coach to start winning more.
