Rob, the Hawks always have a lot of positional flexibility on their line ("get the best 5 on the field" mentality). Do you know if Jackson would be comfortable moving down, or is he strictly tackle? Do you have a sense of who the 6th lineman would be?

They will be fun to watch. Hopefully they serve up more pancakes than an IHOP on Sunday morning.

Side benefit to this ... it will be interesting to see how our DTs develop going up against 2 Outland Trophy candidates in practice every day. It can only help them come game time.

I wonder how good the tackles can be? And I wonder how close some of the young guys are to being able to come in and contribute? I agree, this could be a fun year to watch if you love O-line play.

Scherff moved inside earlier in his career and I think guys like Jackson and Wirfs could do the same thing. There are some other guys in there as well in Reynolds and the Paulsens. Banwart and Williams are working at center. Legrand can play G or C. I'd say going into camp Levi Paulsen, Jackson and Reynolds are probaly in the 6-8 right now. Not sure what order they're in.

In another year I could see Jackson at LT with Wirfs next to him at guard... If Wirfs is as good as the hype that'd be a heck of a left side for a couple yrs with Wirfs maybe moving to LT when Jackson moves on.

The future is bright, especially at the O-line. If things continue I'll be having visions of 2002 offensive numbers running through my head. That O-line did whatever it wanted to.

Too lazy to look it up but I imagine almost every senior who was a starter last year is on some kind of watch list. Not that they need it but extra motivation is never a bad thing.

I keep thinking about the possible starting 5 in 2018 and beyond, and it makes me giddy. Sure we lose Boettger, Welsh and Myers, but return a possible All-American in Daniels, Reynolds and Levi(?) Paulsen who are coming into their own, Lucas LeGrand who has experience, the other Paulsen and the monster of a person that is Alaric Jackson who both have a lot of potential, as well as Wirfs and Kallenberger incoming, plus likely Ezra Miller and Tyler Endres down the road. We could be in for a LOT of good OL play for the forseeable future, which is a staple of good Iowa teams.

Good enough O Line to have your grandmother play QB. That was the standard by all others to be measured.
