Hawkeyes Offer Robert Gregory

Article basically lays out he is a bit of a project, but obviously a great athlete. Based on Iowa waiting this long to offer compared to other QB targets, I have to believe they consider him a kin to Marvin McNutt: if QB doesn't work out, he could slide over to WR. Plus, they could get him and Diamond. Win-win-win

I think Iowa is behind Arkansaw at this point for Gregory and Diamond. Hopefully the Iowa coaches can close the gap quickly and get some help from other Illinois commits.

Are you in the "know" or is this just a guess?

LOL! Iowa is, most likely, NOT behind Arkansas for Diamond's services. If anything, we're still behind Michigan for his services ... but at least we appear to be "catching up."

As for Gregory ... maybe, I don't know.

Here's the shorthand Mick. (which isn't very short)

EVERYONE on the net who claims to be an insider, is NOT an insider. The reason the claim is made is the same reason women-less wonders in high school claim they are best friends with the most popular kid in school.

Actual insiders are mum about their "inside" status for fear of losing their contact once their contact reads the info (that was shared in confidence) on a public message board

On rare occasion an actual insider will suffer from male menopause and reveal himself, when this happens that day will be the last he posts reliable info.

There are guys like Frydaze on HawkeyeReport who had accurate "inside" info a single time. Whether it was a good guess or real inside info no one will ever really know. But just like Bud Fox in the movie Wall Street who had inside info because his dad was a Union rep at the airline, those posters are one trick pony's and smart people realize they had their moment in the sun and then looked pathetic as they tried to turn their 15 minutes into 30 minutes. BTW, an analogous poster to Frydaze on Hawkeyeinsider would be Mike Lopuszinsky. On this site it is fufred. On HALO it's MikeyJoe. Every site has their faux insider. (actually, many of them)

Lastly HomerHawkeye posts thoughts based on researched info. He is not an insider, nor does he claim to be. There are other posters who scour the net like Homer, and like him they attempt to create a cult of personality (Chad). But none of them can match HH, because they don't have his endurance, or his ability to never sleep, or his ability to stay away from ****y.
;^)

We all know that Gregory and Diamond would like to attend the same college together. Gregory has been pursued hard by Arkansaw for quite some time before he got his offer from Iowa. So, IMO, we are behind Arkansaw for his services. But he has just got the offer from Iowa so we shall see if Iowa can close the gap.

As far as Diamond is concerned, again this is probably a package deal. But if you follow twitter he had this to say about Arkansaw:

Jordan76simeon Jordan Diamond
Razorback nation is very underrated... loved it... thanks for the hospitality... Thinking bout coming back.. Heading to Ole Miss tomorrow!

You do not need Inside information to be able to piece this together. While I think Arkansaw is in the lead I do think it is possible that between the coaches and Fleming being a friend they could be persuaded to go to Iowa.

Just because Arkansas may be the favorite for Gregory does not make them the automatic favorite for Diamond. The high school teammates playing together in college factor is very overrated in my opinion.

I think its pretty clear that Michigan is the current favorite of Diamond, although that gap is closing more and more.

Don't forget Derby. The coaches seem content to leave AJ at QB. Not to mention he is neck and neck with a 5th year senior for 2nd string as a RS Freshman. That should be an interesting position battle between a JR Derby and SO Rudock for starting QB in two years.

Please AJ, change positions.

He also said on Twitter he loved the Iowa visit. I bet he says the same thing about Ole Miss.

Really? I have not seen any other tweets from him other than he said he loved the food.

The food is great in I.C

Did I miss something?

I think that you're reading into some of those tweets a bit too much. As I've mentioned in another thread, Arkansas doesn't hold many advantages when it comes to recruiting Chi-town. Iowa has the relationships with the coaches, Iowa has the proximity advantage, AND Iowa has a much better record of developing O-linemen who have gotten drafted. On top of all that, even if Arkansas really is ahead of Iowa for Gregory's services ... Iowa still has the benefit of having a bunch of Chicago-area guys heading to the Hawks who will be recruiting Diamond pretty hard (and recruiting Gregory pretty hard too).

In other words ... Diamond would have had to have fallen in love with the Arkansas coaches and been totally and absolutely blown away by Arkansas for them to still legitimately be in the picture. Instead, what happened? He had a great time ... just like he'd have at almost all his visits.

IMO ... Arkansas is a long shot at this juncture. Things may always change ... but right now, I'm not worried about Arkansas.

Well that sounds reassuring but the rumor mill was swirling that Gregory almost committed to Arkansaw before Iowa finally offered him. If Diamond and Gregory are a package deal then that would have hurt.

I just hope the coaches/Fleming can seal the deal on getting Gregory to Iowa, I think that would go a long ways to get Diamond here as well.

I've not read before that Diamond and Gregory are a package deal. I think if they were Iowa and/or Michigan would have offered Gregory a little sooner, since those are the two that apparently lead for Diamond.

Good friends often WANT to play with one another ... but rarely do they end up being "package deals" unless both guys are really high the offering school from the get-go.

Arkansas wasn't even really on Gregory's radar until they showed enough interest to offer. Similarly, Diamond was previously much more of a Michigan lean too.

My guess is that Arkansas was Gregory's best offer at the time ... and maybe he was tempted to commit right there and then.

However, if you recall, Malik Golden almost committed to Iowa right after his unofficial visit. Since then, he's waited and has gotten a bunch of offers at schools that he likes that are closer to home. This will likely end up biting Iowa in the behind (because I really like Golden) ... however, the same logic also applies to Gregory. And, fortunately, I think that we could benefit from it for a change!

homer, I hope you're right as it would be nice to land both of these guys. We have not seen a dual threat at QB since Brad Banks and he would be fun to watch.

When I have ever claimed to be an insider about anything? I think the only news I ever broke ever was back on Hawkeye Report in like 2005 when Ted Bentler was transferring.

HawkeyeInsider Rob Howe
#Iowa HAS NOT have not offered '12 Simeon QB Robert Gregory a scholarship as reported earlier this week.
