QB/ATH Robert Gregory out of Simeon HS in Chicago has been offered a scholarship by Iowa. He and star OL teammate Jordan Diamond visited Iowa City yesterday. Gregory is friends with several current and potential Iowa commits from the Chicagoland area including, but not limited to Jordan Diamond and Reese Fleming.

This is awesome news. From what i have read gregory wanted an iowa offer pretty bad, and we have to be the favorite to land him. He has all the skills and athleticism to be a brad banks type QB, and if he doesn't make it there, projects to a lot of other positions too. Oh, and he could end up playing a big role helping out with diamond, too.

Excellent. Good for him. Hopefully, we get him and Jordan.

You know what makes me excited about Gregory? If you search for him on YouTube, you'll find track highlights of him. How many kids are fast enough to put track highlights on YouTube?

Hey, we've got experience running an offense like that..

..and if it gets Diamond here, that would be awesome.

What I really like about this? He is teammates with Diamond. So we have Jaleel, Flemming, Ward, and Gregory (if he commits) to recruit him. Could be an epic class out of Chi town

We already have 2 of the Top 5 from IL.. Diamond would be 3 of the Top 6.

Gregory and Fleming are within the Top 20 from IL..

That would be a huge statement about our recruiting grasp in IL going forward.

Not to mention we've still got a lot of IL targets out there (Faith, Tevin, etc.)

Wow, that article sent a chill down my spine. Potential Heisman candidate once he's developed? 4.4 40-yard dash? Good God, let's get this kid signed up, redshirt him, and have a nice lineage: Vandenberg, Rudock, Gregory.

Don't forget Derby. The coaches seem content to leave AJ at QB. Not to mention he is neck and neck with a 5th year senior for 2nd string as a RS Freshman. That should be an interesting position battle between a JR Derby and SO Rudock for starting QB in two years.

This. If we can get Faith, Diamond and Gregory out of Illinois that would be a mighty impressive haul. Im pumped Gregory got an offer.

Weinke is a 4th year Junior, same as Vandenberg. But I too like this offer.

Love it, plus the fact that we are going after the Chicago area hard this year. Gregory was hoping for an Iowa offer, great news.

I think that Derby's fate may be decided one way or the other in the spring this year. If the coaches believe that Derby can beat out Rudock, then keep Derby at QB. However, if the coaches feel that Rudock does/will have the upper hand, then he may get moved. I don't think there would be any shame in losing out to Rudock at QB, because I think he could really be a special one. But if that were the case, and an athlete/player like Derby wasted away on the bench for 4 years, THAT would be a shame.

I agree. I would really like to see Rudock be as good as he's said to be. Based on watching him, I think he's a better quarterback than Derby, but that's just my opinion. I'd like to see Derby move to a spot that utilizes his athleticism.

You never know about these things, but those certainly were glowing remarks from Lemming. Kid's got a cool uncle, too!
