I know you're mainly joking, but DeJean is a straight up athlete. Nothing slow about him.

He had a visit scheduled to Virginia Tech, who saw him as a QB, before he committed.

I only say it based on several encounters in West Des Moines. He blows off everyone, even those saying a simple GO HAWKS and told a girl i Know to get away from him when she asked for an autograph. Wasn't very HAWKEYE like. Hence the comment.

I've met him a few times, and he seemed fine to me. But we're all basing this on either hearsay, or an incredibly small sample size, so who knows...

I hope. Im a cynic when it comes to Iowa and their penchant for picking up Iowa bred FSs. It seems like we have a tradition of just recruiting Iowa guys to play FS.

Isn't "slow white dude" kind of racist? I remember several on this board thought Riley Mccarron was slow when he got a scholarship offer. He later ran a 4.36 at the Pro Day ... one of the fastest 40s clocked that year.

Gervase, another one of those slow white guys, was sub 4.5 last year. I am sure he was a gym rat, though. Hard worker, gritty, lived in the film room.

247 Sports ranks this kid as a top 150 player nationally, a solid 4*. Their scouts call him a terrific athlete with good speed.

FS is ‘quarterback’ of the defense, at least the back half. Needs to be smart, take good angles, not make mistakes. Just like a QB, Athleticism is a COMPONENT, but not the end-all. Hawks have done well with high-IQ guys back there.

After watching the last quarter of the 1A championship game very impressed I realize its 1A but a man among boys. He made a couple of 30 yard throws late on the move that were perfect throws, I know he was recruited as an athlete and he is that but he really needs to get a look at QB when he gets to Iowa.

If this kid can throw accurately...they need to keep him at the QB position. You could add some QB runs that would make our offense really difficult to defend. He's got great vision already...just seems like a gamer. You have to temper your expectations because it's 1A...but the athleticism is off the charts.
