Yeah buddy.

Thats how the football forum was all last season, all offseason and for the first 5/6 of this season. Now that the posters that were negative all the time have nothing to cry about they want to act like it never happened.

Maybe not. I have been pretty critical at times though.

I apologize for de-railing this thread though, and yet again participating in another p*ssing match.

Welcome to the fold, Jack! Can't wait to see you in the black & gold.

you thought i was talking about you? maybe i should have been, but was not.

Always good to have a notable success story coming from the football rich area of Chicago and surrounding burbs. We should do better with B. Ferentz now involved coupled with a good year on the field for Iowa and another down year for the Illini.

We've always been a program over the years that has shown we can capitalize on the misfortunes of others when it comes to recruiting.......especially in surrounding states.

I really hope that this commitment is just the beginning of what we snag out of Illinois for the 2015 class.

A lot of work to do there. With the exception of 1 screen pass and the endzone being less the 7 yards, all of those passes were longer then 7 yards before the receiver had touched the ball. Most were over 10+. Looked more like KOK playbook. Waggle's skinny posts, deep crossing paterns. ;)

A 6'6" 185 lb. junior @ Benet Academy, which is in the Chicago suburb of Lisle, Ill.

He picked Iowa over Illinois and was thought to have had a scholarship offer from Notre Dame at one point.

Beneventi is ranked as a four-star recruit by Scout.com and as the ninth-best quarterback nationally in the 2015 class.

He's thought to be the second member of the 2015 high school senior class to commit to Iowa. He joins West Lyon junior offensive lineman Jake Newborg, who committed to Iowa on August 31. Newborg helped lead West Lyon to the Class A state title in November.

A verbal commitment from a member of the 2015 class won't become official until he signs a letter of intent as a senior in February 2015.

I pretty sure this kid is already better than Rudock. As soon as Beathard beats out Rudock, this kid arrives and takes the job in the fall of 2015. It's inevitable.

The kid is a junior in high school. I'm pretty sure he has some serious development ahead of him...and improved mechanics. Jesus, let's let him get through his first prom and get some hair on his balls before we start blasting him for poor mechanics.

I'm not so sure this internet thing was a good idea.

You may want to pass on the next round.

Love it.

I'm no expert, but i believe that quick throwing motion is pretty desireable. Some kids have trouble with having a long or slow throwing motion. Look at P. Manning's motion. JB's mechanics and skills look great for his age. Not every QB has the same form, doesn't mean they can't be extremely affective. Taylor Martinez has won a lot of games, and look at his crippled mechanics. If i saw him in high school as a D-1 coach, I would have laughed out loud at the thought of him being a QB.

Does anyone know what kind of system he is in now? How his h.s. system will translate to ours? Did he start as a soph in h.s.?

It will be interesting to see how he does in the elite 11 tryouts.

I also don't think this affects Tyler Wiegers decision. Every school takes a QB every year. There is always competition at every school. You have to believe you can beat people out for playing time at a B1G school. If you want gauranteed playing time, go to a small school.

If this Ferentz guy doesn't start shoring up our recruiting shortcomings, we need to fire him. I'm tired of losing these 4 Star guys to the big guys. Oh wait...we have four stars starting to commit early? The changes KF made to the coaching staff are paying off...Brian, Lavar, Chris White, Hernandez...these are young guys that have to be very impressive on the recruiting trail. The arrow is pointing up guys in alot of areas.

Any way someone can kidnap Brandon Scherff after the bowl game? It may take a small army to do it, but we could then release him in April after the draft. I think 10 wins next year is very very doable if he stays. Think about an OL of Scherff, Simmons or Ward, Blythe, Walsh, Donnal. A ton of experience there.

I've noticed that this seemed to be met with a lot of support and then everything got derailed by even more infighting...and if we don't get our heads out of our butts and get one thing cleared up before we set this plan in motion, we're still going to lose Scherff...and quite possibly land in jail for life (the penalty for kidnapping in Iowa)...

We can't release him "in April after the draft"...we're going to have to hold him until after the supplemental draft.

Carry on.

Just for the record, my posts above doing a critique of his current mechanics were in no way meant to be overly critical. More simple observations of how his mechanics differed from my methods in working with QB's in the past. But 22hawkeyes, in the above quote, hit the nail on the head. His film indicates that he's got a strong arm, can put the ball in some tight windows, and his mechanics seem to hold up under pressure (then again, it is a highlight film, so it's to be expected). But considering where the kid is at in his development, he has both found something that works for him but is still young enough to learn a few more things to get even better. Looks and sounds like a damn solid recruit!
