Hawkeyes Gamefilm: Vandenberg vs Michigan St

Tate was hurt and Stanzi ended up getting pressured way more his senior year than he did his junior year. Plus, he lost his safety valve of Tony M. Another overlooked issue was that our D routinely made huge stops in 2009 and they didn't do that in 2010, which reduced Stanzi's opportunities and I think Stanzi took it upon himself to try to do too much to make up for the defensive play and also was overly cautious about turnovers.
Stanzi Sr year we had the lead in the 4th quarter of losses that the D couldn't hold on to. Vandy has been a huge disapoinment this year. Am i a bad fan for hoping that maybe Airbag would mistake Vandy for a RB so Ruddock could get an opportunity. Its hard to believe he could do any worse.

Yes you are.

I think this is a bit harsh, but I do think Gamefilm is objective. For example, the pass to Keenan in the first OT on third down, that was completed for a 10 yard gain,a first down,a play that ensured we were in easy fg range to push the game into the second OT....it was rated a zero for Vandy? It was an on-target,on-time pass in one of the biggest plays of the game,it makes a decent gain in the red zone, and it is a zero for Vandy?

Otherwise,I yield to Gamefilms expertise, and come away concerned about Vandy's overall performance. The good news...it seems that the scheme is not the issue, and maybe not the receivers or line...so at least it is isolated to one position. I simply refuse to believe that KF is refusing to put our best QB on the field ....his job is at stake,so why would he not go with the guy who gives him the best chance to win?

Maybe Vandy is not performing well, but clearly,he is our best at that position.

Twice the screen would have gotten big yards, the int, and I think it was the third quarter when JVB rifled it over Weisman's head. Those would have gone for 30 yards. Sometimes it is just hard to watch him play.

The INT was caused by the line getting blown up. The screen that he threw over Weisman's head was created by a lineman totally reading the play. If he had thrown a catchable ball, it likely would have been picked.

I think part of his problem is that he THINKS, based on his pre-snap read, that certain receivers won't be open so he won't even look that way. If he'd just trust his receivers to get open and be willing to hold the ball for just a split second more there would be so many more big plays available.

From everything I've read, he is coached to go with pre-snap reads and rule out receivers. So, he is following his coaching there.

I find it interesting that with at least two previous Iowa QB's, they were perceived as better in their junior years than in their senior years...Drew Tate and Ricky Stanzi. Now, I recognize that was perception and that there may have been mitigating circumstances. Drew was said to be fighting injury most of his senior year and, of course, like Ricky, was not QB ing the same team as a senior. Just wondering???

Tate was injured, and his stats were about the same as his junior season.

Stanzi had WAY better stats as a senior, but the team didn't do as well so everything thinks Stanzi stunk.

The INT he threw it directly into Gholston's arm. He needs to do what Brian Griese said either throw around him or move a little to get a side shot. Don't throw it into his arm.

also, we may have been watching a different play because the one i'm talking about him throwing it over Weisman's head would have been a big gainer. Weisman got in with his group of OL and it may have been a tough throw but not impossible, there wasn't a DL close.

LOL The line was getting blown up? It was a screen pass dude. The line is supposed to get blown up. Hence the reason there were 3 blockers infront of Weisman. Their entire DL was over the LOS. He made a lazy throw because of poor footwork. It was run to absolute perfection outside of Vandenberg getting a bad angle and making a terrible throw.

"I dont know a single sane person who thinks Stanzi was better as a Jr than a Sr."

--------------------------------

Didn't Stanzi have like 21 TD and 14 INT's his JR year with 3 or 4 pick 6's?

And then 18 TDs, 4 INT's his senior year?

I thought Stanzi was a good Senior.

The fact that Vandy is far ahead of his backups truly truly scares me for the future

Bullock and Garmon were also ahead of Weisman and the only way Weisman gets a whiff at RB is through attrition. Go Figure. Sometimes I wonder exactly how keen KF's intuition actually is or if he wrestles with loyalty issues continuously in his decision making.

Let it go, man. O'Keefe called screens so rarely our fans don't understand the strategy.

LOL! You don't know football!! LOL!!!

We assume this, but it's hardly a fact. I have a hard time believing that Vandy is far ahead of our backup punter when it comes to throwing the ball, let alone Rudock.
