Hawkeyes Cruise in London Opener; Jok leads with 22

I am going to temper my optimism with Jok...but if he keeps stuff like this up, it will be tough to do ;)

“It felt good to play with my teammates in a game against another opponent,â€￾ Jok said. “We’re an unselfish team and tonight we found the open person and executed on offense.â€￾
I like this stated by Jok.

I also really liked Josh O getting back on track with the threes. Hope it lasts all season.....

Really nice to see JO do well: 4/6 from 3. Pete's performance was impressive in a lot of ways. Not only 4/8 from 3 but 7/13 overall- not just shooting 3s. Also 8 rb and 4 ast. Interested to see how both will do the rest of the trip.

I don't know about you guys but I just get a good vibe about this young group of Hawkeyes. They all seem to be close friends that know the importance of team play. I love reading the comments from the players about the unselfish play by everyone. And I love the addition of Uthoff and Jok. Pure shooters! Time to start getting excited about Iowa basketball again! Cheers to a great year everyone!

Temper nothing Miller; Jok is probably the most college ready player Iowa has recruited in the last decade.

The fact that that may be true says more about how bad Iowa has been than anything lol but I would say that it would be Tyler Smith 1st and Aaron White 2nd.

If Jok is better than either of them as a frosh he is going to be really good.

I see Jon beat me to that point.

He went off like it was practice, unfortunately it pretty much was.

Not sure if serious, but I'd give that nod to Tyler Smith

Barring injuries, Jok would have been the next highest rated player coming out of the state of Iowa since Harrison Barnes. I am not going to pretend that his injuries may not affect him still today, but watching him he is in total control all the time and honestly, I can't think of another player who has looked as smooth as Jok coming to Iowa in the last decade.

Because I think he is the most college ready player, it doesn't mean he will be the best freshman Iowa has had in the last decade, but I feel strongly that he will by far and away have the best career of anyone in the last decade. If Jok provides solid defense and can hit open jump shots, something Iowa sorely lacked last season, it will be a special season. Iowa stole one here and we as fans should enjoy it.

I know Jok is not the same player, but I still remember the ESPN article that said Peter Jok will do more for Iowa HS basketball than any player had in the past, including Barnes, shortly thereafter he got hurt. The sky is the limit for this kid and even if he doesn't get everything back that he had before he is still going to be a great player.

Don't temper anything folks, the kid can play ball and is going to get nothing but better in his career. I know the competiton hasn't been the best that he has played, but here is another thing to consider, Jok with his comments sounds like he is on a mission and has something to prove.

I am most excited to hear Fran say Jok played good defense. In some of the PTL highlights I have seen of him his defense was terrible. Its obvious to me that he can score but I was concerned that he might be a liability on defense. If Jok turns out to be a good defender and rebounder I will not be able to nor will I want to temper my enthusiasm.

So this overseas trip is supposed to give the team practice against legit teams, correct? So far the PTL gave them more of a challenge. This is just like non-con last year as far as level of competition goes.

I know, it's just a chance to travel, work as a team, etc before the real practice and season starts. But I guess I was hoping for more. Maybe tonight's game will be a better indicator.

Jok is a lock down defender on defense...when he wants to be. I'm guessing Fran won't allow it to be optional. Jok also tries to make plays from out of position when he's beat and picks up fouls. Again...I think Fran will coach him away from this.

I was concerned when we recruited and signed Jok...only because of his extensive history of injuries. When he's healthy he's an incredible talent and the sky is the limit IMO. I'm glad we got him because we now have the depth should Jok go down with an injury. From what I've been seeing and hearing over the last 12 months he seems to have put the injury bug behind him and has his A game back. If he stays healthy while at Iowa he will do some very special things. I'm looking forward to enjoying the ride.

You may not have had a chance to read up on this, but this game was, for all intents and purposes, a practice. It was closed to the public. The Hawks didn't play Marble, White, or Basabe. The Lions held out 4 or 5 of their better players. Today's game will be more indicative as both teams are expected to play their full compliment of players.

While the games are nice, the trip isn't so much about the games, but the additional practices and team building. It will give Fran a better idea of who will work best together on the court come November.

Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

I also believe they will be playing better teams later in the trip as well. Spain is better known for their pro teams than the UK.

??

I thought it was on to France and then home. IIRC they were supposed to play a couple of Spanish teams, but those got moved to London.

GO HAWKS!!!

Prolly no question he's going to give huge contributions on offense. Still, as Windsor mentioned, there're 2 ends of the court.

Like it or not, he's a true frosh that will have a lot of "mistakes to play through" -- 4 turnovers against a crappy scrimmage opponent. Let's see how much Fran will tolerate that in-season and how he does against MSU and OSU.

My bad, thought it was Spain. Well even France has better bball than the UK.
