IOWA CITY, Iowa - -
The University of Iowa has added a home date with Colorado State to its 2021 football schedule. Colorado State will visit Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021.

Iowa opens the 2021 season with a Big Ten Conference game, hosting Indiana on Sept. 4. The Hawkeyes then travel to Iowa State the following weekend. A third nonconference opponent is needed to complete the 12-game schedule before the Hawkeyes close nonconference play against Colorado State. The two programs have not met on the football field.

Iowa’s October schedule includes a trip to Northwestern, home against Penn State, at Maryland, and hosting Purdue. The Hawkeyes play at Nebraska, host Minnesota and Illinois, and travel to Wisconsin in November.

Iowa’s football schedules through 2020 were announced previously. Following is Iowa’s 2021 schedule, with one date still to be scheduled.

Open with a conference game and add CSU. That's something different, I guess. Not sure what to think...

If Ferentz wasn't here we'd be playing The Steelers at Heinz Field. But since he's is, it's another cupcake from the MWC.

Its a step up from the MAC, at least when comparing CSU to a normal MAC team.

CSU plays in MWC, same as Wyoming. Unless Iowa is playing NIU in in one of their good years, I would consider this a step up from the MAC, CUSA or SBC.

Really, I am just happy its not North Texas again.

If iowa was ever going to play 2 P5 teams in non-conference in the same year, 2021 seems like the best year to do it.

5 conference games at home.
Division Cross over games Indy, PSU, @MD. Not too tough.
1 road non-conference game @ISU. No big deal.

Iowa's opening game is a conference game at home. So that makes it easier to schedule another road non-conference game later.

I am telling, this would be the year to schedule that road game against another P5.

Makes sense to increase Iowa's profile along the front range corridor. Especially with Nebraska's program on the wane. I don't think Iowa has ever pulled recruits from the area though.

I would agree. CSU plays in a high scoring B12ish type of conference so it will probably be a decent test for Iowa.

solid game. Decent team from decent (non P5)conference. Again, with 9 BIG games (and ISU maybe passing us up), den't need to schedule Auburn and Alabama every other game, like most of you want.

That's a decent program ... I like it. They will probably travel well to IC also.

I doubt it. They only average 24k attendence at their own games. There is a reason why they would agree to a buy game and not a home and home series.

They are not a P5 level program yet. Their academics are very good, so there is potential there to take their football program to the next level, they just built a new On campus stadium, which should help build fan suport, but they are not big time just yet.
