Pure guess, but it appears they either couldn't find anyone willing to do the work to publish the stories at whatever they offer for pay, or they decided that since there are still many who use the forum. which requires very little effort or expense on their end, & since the annoying pop-up ads generate enough revenue that the see it as financially worth it to keep the forums open.
