HawkeyeFootball reporting TWO 2011 commits already

I heard it was a receiver from Texas along with Marcus Grant, but I can't remember his name.

Why can't I find anything on Shepard or Lee on Rivals or Scoutsinc? Anyone got a link to some analysis about these fellas

Jonathan (Jay?) Lee is about a half hour away from Shepherd, both are from the Dallas area. Iowa has also offered another of Lee's teammates- Spears, a LB.

5' 11". I wonder if this Shepard might end up at DB or if he wants to come specifically as a WR. Maybe some punt/kick returning. Over the past couple yrs, Iowa seems to have recruited some taller receivers than in the past. I was just wondering with his height of 5'11". Maybe Iowa "promised" they would play him at WR.

Possibly, but I remember reading somewhere earlier (month ago?) that Campbell really liked this kid, so it makes me think WR.

Yeah rivlas reported it was campbell who took one look at film and offered.

Cool then. I think we are seeing the the benefits of having Coach Campbell on staff. WR at Iowa has not been a position they really seemed to key on in the past years. Good to see they are "upping" this skill position.

Jesus can we spread these commitments out over the course of the summer? I need something to hold me over til football actually starts.

ahh Thanks.

Nothing that really gets me too excited about this guy. he's not listed in the top 40 WR on Scouts.

Yet Coach Campbell took one look at the film and offered him. This is the same Coach Campbell who worked with Braylon Edwards (who's totally collapsed in the NFL, but was a prolific college WR), Jason Avant, Marquise Walker, Mario Manningham, and Steve Breaston. Manningham, Breaston, and Avant were all 5'11"/6'0", and they all are in the NFL.

If Campbell was so excited by this guy and offered after seeing film on him ONCE, then forget the recruiting services, it's probably a guy they overlooked. Especially considering the kid is from Texas. There's so much talent there that the services are bound to overlook a few guys.

Agreed, plus we know that the rating services get every recruit right. (Not trying to argue importance of stars and the diamonds in the roughs etc. just saying that they're not always right) And it is still early for some services. I'd take Campbell's word over Scout or Rivals 100% of the time.

OMG!!!! Quick, get on the phone and let the coaching staff know right away so they don't sign him.

By gawd if Scout does not have them in the top 40 then they cannot come to Iowa! We trust the experts at Scout way more than we do the guys that Iowa pays to recruit. In fact, why even have recruiters? Just check the Scout top 40 and just mail them a scholarship offer.
