Hawkeye Season Snuffed in Evanston

The season isn't over, technically. Iowa has four games to play and sit at 4-4 overall on the season after losing to Northwestern. But if feels as if it's over

Homerun comment!!!

"This team looks disorganized, undermanned and out-coached in year 14 of the Kirk Ferentz era. It would seem that there shouldn’t be as much discombobulation this deep into a coaching regime."

Wow... the, ever the glass is half full, JD has come over to dark side. All you need to know about this season:(

I don't know what JD thinks, but firing GD after one season would be incredibly stupid, unless he goes Sandusky or something.
His offense won't work at Iowa. Iowa doesn't get Texas type recruits and that's the only way his style worked.

I think it's better to pull the plug now because it will only get worse from here.

What's your opinion of Greg Davis Jon? Do you think he should be back next season?

You're asking about KF firing someone after 1 season?? He got jock-itch once. Didn't apply treatment for 6 months. "It deserved a chance to show what it can do."

a good OC makes adjustments to the talent level of his players. If JVB is going to get every snap for the season no matter what happens then make changes to the game plan that fits JVB's strengths. It is obvious that JVB is struggling in the 3 step drop scheme. He is not looking past option one because the game is moving too fast for him. It is probably why his footwork and mechanics have declined significantly. Let JVB run the 7 step drop passes that he is comfortable with and had been successful with in the past.

Try to put the square peg into the square hole instead of trying to pound the trinagle into the square hole!

while i think this is an over-the-top-statement, i think it just is a bad fit, and really doesn't match with what we do running-wise. it's like we're trying to be two completely different things. power run and finesse pass. i don't think you can do both. if you're going to power run you need to be able to go deep to keep them honest and keep the safeties from cheating up.

Today showed me enough with his playcalling. It was brutal and no with no killer instinct.

Jon, in your honest opinion....

Even though it's rumored that he isn't ready, do you think it is time to give Ruddock some meaningful snaps? Things aren't improving under JVB, the season looks to be over.

Should Iowa look to the future? It would be scary to think Iowa might start the season next year with a QB who has never taken a snap in a Big Ten game.

Ridiculous, even...

Personally, whether he's ready or not, I feel it's time to see what he can do, and get him some experience.

I've defended the decision to leave JVB in the game until now. 3 delay of game penalties at crucial times show that he, and the coaches are incompetent at managing the clock during a game.

Anyone remember how ticked off Drew Tate used to be when it took forever and a day to get the play called in? Today I understand that anger.

GD isn't the problem.

at some point he is though. if the scheme isn't working for JVB, you need to find something that is, or find someone else who can do it.

i'll go back to this though: i don't think this is a sustainable offense, with power running and finesse passing. we'll see though.

HILARIOUS!!

"...sure it is uncomfortable.....my sister could tell you that...but hey, that's just jock itch."

GD isn't the problem.

So a senior QB doesn't know how to get the ball snapped before the play clock expires? It is on the OC to get the play in and allow time for the QB to make adjustments if necessary. Especially in the current "sophisticated" offense

I don't think that Greg Davis is the issue...while I think there are aspects of his scheme that must have turned Vandenberg's head into Cream of Wheat, making another OC change after one year is prbably not what this program needs
