It's a developmental thing that will get better with time, but the guards are really struggling with DT's crossing their face right now. It's allowing a lot of penetration on run downs, and it is evident with basic line stunts and slants in pass situations. It was obvious that PSU was well ahead of Iowa all day in game-planning - and that isn't likely to change with the o-line injuries and the JVB struggles. Something is going to have to give or we are going to have many more days like PSU.
I know the VDB fight has dominated the discussion post-PSU drubbing, but VDB was just equally as bad as he has been, except against a better D this time. What really changed this week big picture is Scherff being done.
No one to blame for this one, so not much of a discussion. But that one play reset the ceiling on the season to 6-6 in my eyes, and ended the Weisman fun to boot.
I hope Nolan proves me wrong.
