Because Iowa isn't OSU. Iowa isn't Bama or Clemson. How do you expect Iowa to reach their level? We just saw how going undefeated through our regular season didn't even remotely change the national perception of us. And why was that? Because they said our schedule was weak. If your at the top of the mountain you have the flexibility to do whatever you want just about. So your perfectly ok with ISU being the marquee non con opponent on our schedule for the forseeable future? Along with playing UNI? Why perpetuate a narrative that holds us back from not only accomplishing goals on the field but all the dominos that go with it in recruiting etc? What we are doing is treading water without a paddle and trying to swim up a waterfall. You can't expect to get ahead by following the crowd and doing the bare minimum. That's lazy and not trying. I'd rather go 7-6 or 8-5 by playing a challenging schedule with the chance of raising our profile and winning it all as opposed to what they are doing. But that's just me
That's just you. Of course I am not "ok" with ISU being Iowa's premier non con matchup - but THEY are. Scheduling UNI makes as much sense as scheduling FBS Roast Beef State. It's also cheaper - the smaller FBS schools are charging twice as much as what UNI would to schedule a home win. WIth ISU, Iowa can't reasonable schedule another power 5. Why I understand your "want" for a better match-up ( I do too, but also don't want the ISU game to go away) but, what everyone fails to get in this is that the ISU game handcuffs Iowa. With ISU on the schedule, it would be an absolute disservice to schedule another P5 team because less then 2% of CFB are playing 11 P5 teams a year sans independents.
