Hawkeye Add UNI to '20 Schedule

Because Iowa isn't OSU. Iowa isn't Bama or Clemson. How do you expect Iowa to reach their level? We just saw how going undefeated through our regular season didn't even remotely change the national perception of us. And why was that? Because they said our schedule was weak. If your at the top of the mountain you have the flexibility to do whatever you want just about. So your perfectly ok with ISU being the marquee non con opponent on our schedule for the forseeable future? Along with playing UNI? Why perpetuate a narrative that holds us back from not only accomplishing goals on the field but all the dominos that go with it in recruiting etc? What we are doing is treading water without a paddle and trying to swim up a waterfall. You can't expect to get ahead by following the crowd and doing the bare minimum. That's lazy and not trying. I'd rather go 7-6 or 8-5 by playing a challenging schedule with the chance of raising our profile and winning it all as opposed to what they are doing. But that's just me

That's just you. Of course I am not "ok" with ISU being Iowa's premier non con matchup - but THEY are. Scheduling UNI makes as much sense as scheduling FBS Roast Beef State. It's also cheaper - the smaller FBS schools are charging twice as much as what UNI would to schedule a home win. WIth ISU, Iowa can't reasonable schedule another power 5. Why I understand your "want" for a better match-up ( I do too, but also don't want the ISU game to go away) but, what everyone fails to get in this is that the ISU game handcuffs Iowa. With ISU on the schedule, it would be an absolute disservice to schedule another P5 team because less then 2% of CFB are playing 11 P5 teams a year sans independents.

Well the obvious reason for that is the traveling involved. UNI takes a short bus ride down. If your getting someone further away that has to charter a flight etc it gets expensive fast. As far as ISU goes obviously I'd be more than ok with dropping them like the bad habit they are. They do us little good. Till they become relevant (beating OK helps anyway if they can build off that) I just think we shouldn't be married to them just because of location. Missouri is pretty close we pretty much never play them. We shouldn't be under any obligation to 'help' the other instate schools out. If ISU gets to be respectable and not a bottom 10 FBS team for awhile then ok I'll listen but it shouldn't be an unconditional love affair with a bad program that doesn't benefit Iowa win or especially lose.

Ok, I can get behind that... If you're stance is, get rid of ISU and go out and get a sexier Power 5 - 110% agree. But, scheduling another P5 team on top of them is a detriment to the program and I don't think scheduling Troy instead of UNI makes a hill of difference... except, you can get FCS teams for a million less to come play.

Yeah I'm looking to improve total schedule not just drop FCS teams. I agree with ISU being the anchor holding us down. That isn't changing anytime soon either so here we are.. I'd love to know KFs honest two cents on this topic. Nobody knows better than him how all this fits and there has to be larger forces at work keeping this rivalry going as is.

I imagine KF is absolutely fine with a weak non con - Iowa is developmental program (as said a zillion times on here so much to the fact that people are sick of it) but it doesn't make it untrue. A knock on KF has been early loses in September. They are still working out A LOT of kinks in this program early in the season. Iowa doesn't recruit at the same level as some of the CFB elite. I get that we want as fans to have a sexy match up in the OOC to look forward to and get pumped about.... but chances are, your scheduling a loss when you could schedule a win. It's easy to say NOW, that you'd rather play a better team and deal with the loss, then play an FCS team or ISU...but I bet that sentiment would change pretty quickly if we were getting beat every September by Missouri, K-State or similar type teams. Also, the loss hurts. The FCS Win DOES NOT... why? Because everyone else is doing it.

Get rid of ISU - and play someone else, that's the only answer to their current situation.

We already lose games to teams like NDSU, Northern Illinois and ISU more often then we should. That hurts beyond measure. Losing to a K State or Colorado type of team wouldn't be good I'd never debate that. But at least it wouldn't be as bad with their actually being a positive spin to it when you win. There's no upside to beating an FCS team or ISU the last few years. Other than getting exercise for the day that's all they get.

that's all they need with a 9 game B1G... Iowa's schedule does not need beefed up most years

2015 - Iowa could have played 2 FCS teams in the OOC - win against MSU and they are stil in the playoffs. This is fact - if you're a P5 and go undefeated you're dancing... because there's only 1 or 2 teams that do it a season. If you have a loss - then SOS comes into play - but again, scheduling FCS is rampant around the game ... why does Iowa need to be different? I see no benefit besides it being pleasing for the fans, but a horrible business decision for the school.

I hear all the arguments pro and cons, but playing local teams is zzzzz! There is just a special feeling playing a team from another part of the country whose name you recognize. Ever Wyoming was kind of cool. It shows us where our program stacks up against other conferences. Who the hell cares if we lose a few if it's good competition. We learn nothing about Iowa pre-Big then we cry about "not being as good as we thought" when we struggle in conference. "Oh no, if we lose a pre-Big game it will ruin our Nat. Champ. Chances". REALLY!!!!!??? Is anyone that delusional? As far as $$$ being the issue, I ask WHEN has $$ ever been an issue at Iowa?
I say play a UCLA, Arizona, Navy, Florida, Houston, ect., once a year. Win or lose it will provide more honest assessment of our team than three games played in Iowa. The fans deserve it.

This just shows you're not serious

You should read more. There are quite a few who want Iowa to play tougher OOC and play in the CFP every year.
