A caller from East Moline just called in and asked Fran, "How much better would college basketball be if players were forced to play at least 3 years"

Fran took a bit to answer the question and you could tell he thought it was just a dumb question.

Fran said this:

"I have never had a player leave early", he then chuckled and said, "Jeeze I hope to have players leave early in the future"

He understands that you want those type of players, because guess what they are actually good. He made the point that there are not many one and done or two and done players in college basketball when you really think about it.


I just thought it was funny. You could tell Fran wanted to say, why in the hell wouldn't I want a Jarred Sullinger type player even if he only plays one year.

Just a bad question.

I'm lost. Maybe i'm an idiot too, but how does this guys question come to the conclusion that he doesnt want players like Sullinger? Wouldnt it be more like him saying, "I wish i could have a player for Sullinger for at least 3 years?"
 


Let's face it, if the ones that leave after 1 yr. (manditory) all had to stay for 2 more years, it would certainly upgrade the quality of basketball over all.

It's kind of a shot at people who try to claim that a one year player is bad to have for a program because that player doesn't help build something or some BS like that. Let's face it, it's just an excuse that teams who can't recruit great players like to make up for missing out on a player.

Basically Fran was saying well duh, of course I would have zero problem signing one and done players if I was lucky enough to have them commit to a school I work for or had worked for.

It's just pointing out that Fran doesn't have a problem with that type of player.

I can almost see people saying some BS. like Fran would avoid those type of players...

I just found it funny because it's convo I have had with friends about how we have no problem with one and done players playing for for the team that we follow because it just opens up so many doors.

I wouldn't turn up my nose at a one and done. But I wouldn't want to try and build a program off of 3 or 4 of them every year (like Calipari does). College basketball is better with 3-4 year players.
 


College BB would be better if like college FB they had to stay three years. Ricky Davis was a one and done, think of what he might have been able to do at Iowa with two more years under his belt. Also, if players had to stay three years it just might take the mid majors out of college BB, which have been a good story over the years. Teams like UNI and others thrive off of having a senior heavy team and making a run every couple years in the tourny.

I am for the baseball rule....either come out of high school straight to pros,or stay in college for three years.
