HAVING HAD 30+ HOURS TO REFLECT ON THE OUTBACK BOWL ...

No I dont see it as funny either way.
But you’ve made the implication that Mississippi’s education stinks due to discrimination and lack of opportunity for African American’s. But I see West Virginia has terrible education too but is predominately white. How can I average Joe Midwesterner know when the discrimination and lack of opportunity for African American is the reason or something else is the issue like in West Virginia. Must I look up the census for every state prior to making comments on their state?

By the way “Tampa” nice post and good points. Too bad some want to highjack the thread.

I noticed one time when the camera panned the crowd that there were A LOT of empty seats. One poster on this thread noted most of the fans that were there were wearing the black and gold. They did their best to hide the lack of crowd that was there. To be fair even though it’s a January fist bowl game at the end of the day it was two middle of pack football programs. Having said that it ALWAYS feels good to beat an $EC team.

That was nice of them to let all those homeless people and pan handlers with cowbells into the stadium for free. I hope they gave them a free hotdog or something. :p
Yes, they gave them a free ticket, a free hot dog, and signed them up as registered voters.

Thanks - appreciate somebody getting this thread back on-topic. Two years ago, the listed crowd (when we played Florida, who is just up the road maybe 100 miles) was around 50,000, and seemed to be about equally divided between Hawk fans and Gator fans. This year's announced crowd was (a dubious) around 40,000, and clearly the majority were Hawk fans.

This is why bowls want Iowa. Between a good alumni base and faithful travelers, the bowls (maybe sans Pinstripe Bowl) like what we bring - dollars, enthusiasm, genuinely happy to be there, and for the most part being respectful and well-behaved so they will want us back. Nowhere is that more so than in Orlando, who is just dying to get us back to the Citrus Bowl after our turn-out on 1/1/2005. The Orange Bowl in Miami is the same way.

One more thing. GREAT point by the person who reminded us how awful the weather was this year at the Holiday Bowl (the one so many wanted us to go to). In Tampa, it was a bit (OK, more than a bit) warm, but otherwise perfect.

I love the place. They have treated my child very well. I also have very good insurance. My child has benefited fron KF generosity. Got a pick on my phone when I went out in the hallway and saw his plaque.very nice comfortable room which understress is nice.

Not only that when Iowa fans go somewhere they come early and spend money, typically make a nice vacation out of it. These bowl games are typically run by the community, so they love that.

MSU fans probably drove down the day before, spent the night, and probably drove back home after the game. Which is also probably why you didn't see them tailgating very much.

Your case is weak. I simply said that making comments about infant deaths, educationvspending, intelligence can be interpreted as being racially insensitve to those in the racial group.

I also don't see poverty as funny of any race..

I reflect this comment. We as a family were at the Capital One bowl game against LSU when we one on the last play of the game. Hit the amusement parks the day before and just had a great time with my wife and three children. We talk about it and reflect back on it every once in a while as a family. It’s a great experience that all of you should set aside money for. I am saving up for a national title game though as I get older I may not get to see in my life time. If not then Inwill cheer from the heavens above if it ever happens. Expect the ball to take some unexplainable bounces on that day. :)

That’s really why I am so hard on Kirk because I want to experience it just once with my family in this life time. I think most of you know that and that’s why you don’t bother me too much when I get frustrated.

I read that this year's outback bowl had the lowest attendance in history. Something like 40k? I have to believe at least 30k were iowa fans. Didn't seem like there were many MSU fans there at all.

Nope. People were saying Mississippi’s state had poor education and you said that made them ignorant and racist because the state has a large black population.

You were the one who brought race into the conversation. As many people do in today’s society you pulled a race card when the conversation had nothing to do with race.

The main “Mississippi idiot” that Iowa fans were ripping for being poorly educated was a white Mississippi State podcaster.
